If in 2099 they vote for what the most defining fact of the 21st century is, "Donald Trump's name is in the Epstein files more times than Jesus's name is in the Bible" will be a strong goddamn contendor for the title.

It's kinda insane how seeing the cretins in power balking and wimping out against the resistance is instilling within me an overwhelming desire to create new videos ans other art like an absolute maniac.

That's honestly something that people have been weirdly slow to internalize: If you're making ANY kind of art, people are gonna have at best suspicion, and at worst automatic disgust, if there is ANY aesthetic element in it that reminds them of AI "art," and it really does not take much at all.

I'm SUPER careful now when using the Spot Healing Brush and Content-Aware Fill tools in Photoshop now.

This is because I know that one out-of-place usage of these tools will make the entire piece give "AI generated" and people will have a VISCERAL negative reaction to even the tiniest whif of that.

I feel like Don Toliver is an understated contender for a rapper who could potentially do VERY well for himself on the pop charts over the next few years.
Don Toliver’s ‘OCTANE’ is aiming for the biggest Billboard 200 debut for an album this year based off early forecasts.

Headed for 130-160K first week.

If I had to guess, I'd say the average quality of pop music over the next few years will average out to around where 2021 was... plenty of neat stuff going on, with a reasonable eb and flow of intrigue and stagnation that leans more towards intrigue
February 2, 2026 at 2:18 AM
I simply don't have space in my head right now for the sheer volume of pointless reactionary bullshit from all sides that this is gonna generate, so I'm just gonna tune out and say "very cool, thanks Chappell, glad you're having fun."
Don’t think we’ll be beating this look tonight for most shocking lol Chappell Roan let the girls loose #Grammys

I'm kinda floored by how 2026's hit parade is popping off... SO much really good, interesting stuff, and it seems to be gaining purely organically... this new crop of hits has very little flukey viral energy about it, I think there's just a lot of trending music that's very broadly engaging atm

And also let's be real, Olivia Dean abosolutely also deserves that #1 spot, this is nothing but a win-win

Makes sense... I clocked that song as a hit as soon as I heard it, but I NEVER would have guessed NUMBER ONE hit big

It's not gonna happen, but could you imagine if, at age 76, Bruce Springsteen got his first ever #1 hit with a fucking anti-ICE protest song?

Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Minneapolis", released Thursday, 29 Jan 26, is No. 1 on the youtube music charts Sunday, 1 Feb 26, 6:47 PM EST with 5.1 million views for the music video:

...which is why I think we're seeing new music failing THIS hard recently.

Granted, I still think the BIGGEST reason is that consumers are exhausted and looking for known, unchallenging comforts, but I think this protectionist media consumption trend is a not insignificant piece of thr puzzle.

...ecosystem of media consumption via "thrift shopping."

I think the film and game industries are forcing people to appreciate what they have, rather than always demanding more. This is developing a trend of more conservative media consumption habits that we're seeing spill into music as well...

...is that music is caught up in that dragnet, when it doesn't have to be.

Games are expensive, movies & shows are time consuming... but there's no big opportunity cost to finding new music.

I say new music is failing because of risk-averse capitalism, yes, but also because of this much broader...

Observation thread:

Our collective brokenness, combined with the explosion of AI & franchise slop, has caused a huge percent of the population to just opt out of novel art as a consumerist product, choosing to return to the endless ocean of pre-existing media instead.

The interesting thing...

Let's be honest: the fact that Trump happened means that the US was always vulnerable to something like Trump happening... it was inevitable, sooner or later.

To that end, there is a part of me that is thankful, at the very least, that America's evil demagogue ended up being SO fucking incompetent.
I’m thankful for Trump

Without him I have never paid more attention to politics as I have in the last 10 years

I’ve never appreciated the rights I have as a US citizen

I’ve never thought our government would turn against it’s citizens

I was naive as to how stupid 30% of the population is
