YES!!! All my close acquaintances are tired of hearing me rant about the literary uncanny valley. I first noticed it when I was assigned Updike in high school in the nineties.

I once had a housemate who worked at a local free-range chicken farm. I'll never forget her coming in exhausted and filthy one night, flopping down on the couch, and announcing "the more time I spend around chickens, the less guilty I feel about eating them."

I used to teach this stuff as an "outdoor skills" workshop through the hiking club at my college in the early oughts. As in, "we drive long distances on sketchy dirt roads to trailheads and there's no cell service out there. So you should know this!"

My friends who teach college complain about this a lot. Anecdotally they saw a big shift in the early-mid 2010s - basically, the first kids to grow up with smartphones. I'd also love to see data on prevalence of "computer skills" classes as a distinct subject at the K-12 level over time.
