They didn’t just NOT give Trump the Nobel Peace Prize, they wrote a citation that reads like an anti-Trump rallying cry.

(He’s gonna extra-tariff Norway now, isn’t he?)

The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 has been awarded to Venezuelan democracy activist María Corina Machado.

The Nobel Committee recognised her “struggle to achieve a just & peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

In other words, exactly the opposite of what Trump is doing to the United States.

So so much - this attitude of "use positive words/try yoga" is at best unhelpful and at worst triggers memories of years of being told you're just not trying hard enough or not resilient enough.

Between today, baby loss awareness day and my birthday, October's bloody awful for my mental health.
lycomorpha.bsky.social
These kind of go outside/try yoga/think positive suggestions are not bad in themselves. But they're not useful if you have serious or persistent mental health problems.

So for some of us it, it gets very tedious. World mental health day doesn't feel like it's for people like me, TBH.

Yes! I've got this which needs updating (for the whopping one additional woman who's won the prize since 2020). "Nobel Prize diversity" is a bit of an oxymoron...

And a whole women in chemistry category here which shows there's no shortage of potential nominees: www.compoundchem.com/category/wom...

The Nobel prize for metal-organic frameworks has been predicted for several years, even without much commercial presence. With several materials now at or close to commercial scale, perhaps the Nobel will provide the impetus for MOFs to have real-world impact.

Hearing the announcement of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner released a ball of anxiety I hadn't recognised was there - time to go and learn more about Maria Corina Machado and be happy that bullies don't always win and don't get validation they don't deserve.

The 2025 #NobelPrize in Chemistry was awarded today for the development of metal-organic frameworks, molecular sponges with applications in gas storage, water purification and more: www.compoundchem.com/2025/10/08/2...

Infographic on the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi for the development of metal-organic frameworks. The infographic explains that metal-organic frameworks are molecular sponges built up from metal ions and organic compounds that act as linkers. Small molecules such as gases can move into and out of cavities in these frameworks. The graphic highlights some of the MOFs the laureates have developed and concludes by looking at possible future uses of MOFs, including gas storage and extracting water from air.

I'm really happy to see that MOFs got the Nobel prize, & that they picked these 3 scientists, who really drove the field. Especially Richard Robson, whose visionary paper showed the first synthesis & predicted the design & functionality of these materials #ChemNobel #Chemsky @rsc-pormat.bsky.social

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

A remarkable transformation in @rsc.org prizes.
30% of prizes recognise teams rather than individuals (up from 5%).
36% of prize-winners are early-career (up from 4%)
38% of prize winners are women (up from 25%)
Twice as many prizes for work outside universities.
