I say all of this as one of Newsom's biggest critics. I've written multiple articles on how horrible he has been in rhetoric and action towards transgender people.

This is not the five alarm fire I'm watching for with him.

Newsom doesn't seem willing to support the trans community. I'm not convinced he's the "hero" everyone wants to pretend.

And for me personally, I had initial misgivings about the ATP & this is actually emphasizing for me that I was right about them

To add on top of that Aaron just casually mentioning that the site is doing a thing that a lot of people on the site had been given the impression -- by the org's own comms -- was not happening just adds to the "they're being arbitrary and unconcerned with the fact that humans are on the other end"

Now it may sound like I'm merging two separate incidents but they are not separate in the sense that they both come back to the org coming off as behaving arbitrarily and capriciously, to the point of banning a couple of people soon after they pissed Jay off

I also think Jay's position that "we're just an engineering project" is deeply uneducated at best & given that she's a smart person, more likely just extraordinarily disingenuous. Technology is a social phenomenon and the ATP has been designed specifically for a social network. It's a people thing.

Part of what's extraordinarily broken about this situation is that Bsky made a big point of being hypercommunicative and it now seems like the org was being selective about that -- when it has actively made an effort to be very transparent and then when it has done the total opposite

The way we are experiencing this is as a genuine "fuck you guys" moment, where the level of "fuck you" increases with your level of transness and POCness

And I'm sure there are folks on the team who don't feel this way about it but this is how the failed comms strategy is working, publicly

This is entangled from a public relations standpoint -- and this is public relating in the very literal sense -- with the really nasty way that Jay has spoken to various trans folks in the last week with the added bonus of a beloved Black community member being perma banned

Yes, I have. Unfortunately, I have a bunch of health things & that doesn't come with benefits. Plus, I don't have a client base large enough to replace my salary. Not even close yet.

I am definitely picking up more tutoring clients though, as it's been a side gig for years for me.

I was a MEEP-er in summer 2007 & then a SMEEP-er in summer 2008. I also volunteered with the teaching volunteers & the discovery room. I thought at one point that might be my career... and then the financial crash of 2008 made funding for those roles disappear.
