Kerkering is getting grief on this, but:

- it's a tough pickup w/ the ball hitting the mound like that
- he realistically had no throw to home (overthrow aside)
- a pivot/throw to 1st would have been *tight*

so, not an easy play, and one I'd probably expect to see runners safe on anyway
