Out today, the latest Tyrant Philosophers piece - book 3.5 in the series is a novella length offering about the life of Angilly, who we met in Days of Shattered Faith. You don’t need to have read that (or any of them) to read this.

Lives of Bitter Rain by @aptshadow.bsky.social is out today!

A novella in the Tyrant Philosophers series, this book takes a deep dive into the character of Angilly and her past, and further explores the empire's reach, and the costs of living inside it...

Both a book nerd and a music nerd here. True happiness is reveling in our nerdery. ❤️

There needs to be more coverage of this in the news. I have read so many stories bout this on Facebook, first hand stories of the terror of that storm, and very little coverage n media.

Screenshot of a Facebook post. Photo is an elderly woman holding a child on her ap on a couch with flood water around them. Both are wearing jackets inside. Text says: This was after our 1st drift.. staying put for awhile. Our 3rd and final drift was terrifying. House moving fast then we started spinning in circles. While we were spinning in circles my oldest daughter was just staring at me while I held onto my younger two. Kipnuk doesn't look like kipnuk anymore, like more than 3/4 of the homes displaced, power poles fallen. It smells like stove oil outside. Contaminated

Catching up with another round of newsletters discussing OpenAI’s latest breathless announcements. Can we all agree the theftbros are sounding increasingly desperate and just ignore them?

Give us some insightful analysis of their environmental impact instead?

I am still at work (thought to drive straight home after class) because I left my housekeys in the office and now I'm too tired to drive so I'm going to chillax a bit first.

First MA class of the semester over. Good group of students, I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop over the semester. Still baffled at how much I enjoy teaching about teaching (pedagogy-based class) but I guess after 21 years of teaching that happens. Old lady likes to proselytize.

I literally just turned in a round of edits to my editor at Bloomsbury for my book about the founding of JPL and the Suicide Squad, and this is painful to see.

JPL has been responsible for some of our most incredible achievements in science, and this is going to set us back.

Little update. Mostly been off bsky coz I've had some complications involving fevers, bleeding. It's been a rough six weeks, physically, mentally, emotionally. Would have liked to have rested but I gotta pay for the hospital bills and various tests and medications. Anything you can spare will help.

Hi all; I'm going to undergo a significant procedure later this year (sorry, would rather not disclose) and my husband's health insurance doesn't cover it. We're going to need funds for the care during and after. Any help would be much appreciated:

I've been obsessed with the myth of Cupid and Psyche since I was a kid reading it for the first time in a hospital bed, and that obsession fueled a later obsession for French Salon Fairytales...which led to my building the hypertext narrative upon which this novel is based. A fractal of cupids!

I absolutely adore The Bell at Sealey Head. It’s one of my favourite books by McKillip and I can’t get over being mentioned together with her! 🥰

Watermyth by @mythopoetica.bsky.social and The Bell at Sealey Head by Patricia McKillip also have lovely food descriptions

The problem with working out regularly is that one gets hungrier. Also, blood sugars working well also means one gets hypo if not fed regularly. Deficit becomes a challenge. 🫠

(the good news is that I can actually eat /more/ now but then it would just be maintenance mode)
