Japan’s far right is on the rise, alarming foreign workers. Nowhere is that anxiety more apparent than in the city of Toyota, where immigrants power the economy while facing political backlash.

when a prof at our university got suspended for a September Post, it was the undergrads who made and surreptitiously posted linocut prints demanding his reinstatement who gave me hope and vitality. what we do, all of us, together, here matters

week 7, in a city under siege for 32 days and counting, and the students who are able to come to class despite the blitz are showing up like their lives depend on those 50 minutes of togetherness, poetry, and big questions

IDK, man. School started 2 weeks ago for us, and once again students remind me that they’re so curious and interested in the world and anxious to ask big questions. We hear that these questions are no longer useful or relevant, but wherever that’s coming from, it’s not what students believe.

One of the things about this study is that a lot of baby and toddler books are written in house, by editors. So the study reveals the whiteness of editorial in kidlit even if not explicitly. But, big picture, this trend is unacceptable. I remember so many promises www.theguardian.com/books/2025/o...
‘Catastrophic decline’ in Black representation in children’s books

Do you see that press conference where Jack Posobiec (well known white supremacist and neo-Nazi) told Trump and the world that antifa go all the way back to Weimar Germany, thereby saying those that opposed Nazism then were the bad guys? Quite extraordinary.

A haka tautoko is a very specific form. 'Tautoko' means to support, and is a very specific piece of Māori protocol (tikanga). You can also have waiata tautoko, which are songs. These are all formal ways in Māoridom to show support, agreement and solidarity. Not doing them is insulting.

This is Manolo. His family invited strangers to spend time with him on his last day. His mom said, "This was such a perfect way to celebrate the life of a dog who truly loved spending time with people and their dogs. Run free and fast forever, Manolo. I will never stop missing you." 14/10 for all

No, this was the new MP, Oriini Waipara. The haka that went viral earlier was by another Māori MP, Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke. Our colonial government still likes to suppress these things, so each haka serves many purposes. 🙂

Film review:
Tron: Ares trawls the megalomania and vacuous egoism of tech billionaires.
It is depressing, dumb and artistically worthless.
It also asks us to believe the good tech corp will defeat the bad tech corp, and this assumes the viewers are as stupid as the film.

Brownlee shouting "No, not that" to a wahine Māori doing a haka in parliament is everything that's wrong with this place trying to belittle and silence everything that's good about this place. #NZpol
