Hey peeps! It's been 2 weeks since I launched my crowdfunding campaign, and your support and generosity have blown me away. You folks rock! But with 3 research grant rejections this month & 2 weeks left to go I’ve decided to set a new stretch goal & pivot… 1/8
It’s been lovely chatting to people about my legal action and crowdfunding campaign. A few days ago I was interviewed by the Skeptics Zone peeps. Here’s the link if you want to listen www.skepticzone.tv Please share!

I have no idea how we are expected to fund our postgraduate student’s studies. To be fair, I’ve been funding mine from my own pocket for years, using money I earned from paid talks & radio/paper columns. But I’m approaching 2026 with no paid columns anymore & no paid talks lined up. It’s a bit scary
This funding environment is brutal. Four grants rejected this month :( The latest a small grant-in-aid from a charity that I’ve not had a no from in the ~15 years I’ve been applying to them. They always try to give a little bit. And this for follow on funding for work published in Nature Comms 😢

Thank you @writagal.bsky.social for always lighting the way. We have had an uptick in donations today and they are so very welcome. I reckon after today, we all know what’s needed is a safe and secure alternative reporting option - and that’s what we’ve built @tika
If you’re heartsick and furious at the consistent headlines and the lack of accountability across the board for NZ’s stats, please amplify and support Tika - an org that’s gearing up to do something about it, including the excellent @alisonmau.bsky.social.

Tika reps are on RNZ just after 9 today.

Coffee tips are always appreciated.

I have a big weekend planned - being flown to Auckland to do a media thing - secret at the moment, but will be public in a few weeks.

There are three main ways you can help my work with Rights Aotearoa:

First, you can tip me coffee money directly at:

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

First go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner

One hard thing about managing to take my employer to court, is the number of current & former staff who contact me for advice. 3 this week alone. One can’t get uni to confirm their role or building access without a court order or lawyers letter. Any lawyers willing to help pro bono?!

Wow it defaults to hiding quite a few things. Many probably for the best, but for now I'm switching most to warn (and I remain willing to see rude posts - I follow @dimsie.bsky.social after all)
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Measles outbreak update
No new measles cases today. Total confirmed cases remains at 17. All no longer infectious. The outbreak is still ongoing, and we are focused on stamping out further spread. An outbreak can only be declared over after 42 days with no new cases - so we’re not there yet.
