I mean, I don't think anybody really complains about reasonable fan service, even! The major complaint I see is when _every_ female character is sexed up in very specific ways. That kind of monoculture communicates in a very clear fashion.

(being non-snarky for a moment, one of the biggest flexes I ever saw professionally was pair programming with my team lead, finding some hopelessly duplicated code that needed refactoring, and he just... wrote regexes. Fluently. By hand. No testing. And they just worked.)

The Iowa-class were the fastest battleships ever built, too. The HMS Dreadnought, which lent its name to the entire lineage of ships that found it's apogee in the Iowas (or the Yamatos, arguably) was much, much, much less agile.

Yeah. It's not about having some guarantee that the people in question will get back pay. It's about what it says about the GOP's internal perception of the strength of their position that they're walking stuff like this back so quickly.
