There are very few mainstream predominantly male hobbies that are left-coded. Barro should understand this - we have had multiple discourse cycles about it!

Talked to some National Guard kids from West Virginia on the street near my office. They don't have leave to go home for Thanksgiving this week.

They can't see their families, because the president wants to use them as political props. No doubt, though, there'll be a feast at Mar-a-Lago Thursday.

Horrible.

The governor sent them there because the President of the United States was angry that a DOGE employee in DC was beaten up by a teenage girl.
NEW: The governor of West Virginia says that two members of the state National Guard shot today in DC have died.

Code switching is multipurpose!
My theory is that something like 30% of all men use a fake deep voice almost all the time. So many guys talk and I instantly think “Not your real voice. Now your coward’s soul is bare to me”
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

I saw a reddit comment "Hegseth definitely thinks Army Captain and Navy Captain are the same."
you mean to tell me that a talk show host going with "this guy has arranged the military medals he won badly" as a PR strategy against a combat veteran didn't work?
In the battle of public opinion, Hegseth is the clear loser.

"it feels like talking to a PhD" (derogatory)
There are like a dozen levels of pro-AI sentiment and the dumbest form is definitely "it can do everything better than a human"

The second dumbest one is "it feels like talking to a PhD in all domains"
There are like a dozen levels of anti-AI sentiment and the dumbest form is definitely "no one likes it"

Man, the problem with AI isn’t that nobody likes it. It’s that people love it and it’s not particularly good at the things they loving having it do.

And also it remains unclear exactly how much, in dollars, they will love it being mediocre at the things they want it to do.
i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

John Mulaney's Horse in the Hospital joke remains the best explanation of the Trump administration. Trump doesn't have agency - he's just a force of nature / dumb fucking horse. It's up to everyone else to horse-proof their decisionmaking.
Crazy how much some media has normalized the idea that voters are taking a risk if they elect governors/mayors who will defy Trump. That he’ll threaten their funding, etc.

Try to imagine, say. Greg Abbott being asked if he’s worried that Biden will punish Texas over his lawsuits.
