Special elections are called special for a reason

Often closer than a general election would be

But the fact it is this close is wild

Giving 2017 GA-6 vibes with Jon Ossoff narrowly losing

Matt Van Epps 48% (R)
Aftyn Behn 46% (D)

Nancy Pelosi was able to stay House Democratic leader for 20 years

Every Republican leader during that time had trouble controlling his caucus

Hard to imagine Johnson staying on if GOP loses majority

Would mean 3 different GOP leaders in little over 3 years

Big endorsement for Del. Mike Jones in upcoming special election to replace Hashmi in State Senate

Date for special and firehouse primary is TBD

Jones will face off against Del. Debra Gardner for the Dem nomination

Winner of that almost certain next State Senator in blue seat

I’m not certain Glen Sturevant is going to run for re-election in 2027

He represents a State Senate seat in Richmond suburbs Spanberger won by 9%

Not really sure what his end game is

But his posting is not what would you expect given his district

New CBS poll has Trump as 60% disapprove vs. 40% approve

His handing of the economy and inflation has really taken a hit

Much of the election results this month could be explained by that alone

Down in Virginia's #HD49, we saw a very close race in a Trump+8 district. That's where Republican Danville City Councilman Madison Whittle beat his fellow City Councilman Gary Miller by six points.

Miller ran even with Spanberger despite no outside help from the state Dems!

The Virginia Democrats flipped the last Republican-held seat in Loudoun County blue this year when they won #HD30.

John McAuliff was the one to do so, winning this Trump+1 district by two points. This makes him the most successful Virginian named McAuliff(e) this decade

Virginia's #HD86 looked like it was going to be a competitive district, but then Republican incumbent A.C. Cordoza was revealed to be a predator towards underaged girls.

Cordoza never really was able to claw back from that and ended up losing this Harris+2 district by eight.

One reason to be skeptical of Emerson: Their polling shows 18 percent undecided. They don't push their respondents.
Caveat it is smaller sample size

But among Hispanics in Nevada

Trump Approval

57% Disapprove
24.5% Approve

Don’t think results in New Jersey and Virginia are localized there
