I love building things. Taking an idea from spark through execution, putting something real into the world, whether it's a book or a painting or a garden.

What it means to live well is always personal but I don't get how chasing money as its own goal is real.

I don't need expensive cars or a big house.

I need experiences and time with my loved ones. That, to me, is a mark of living well.

I was using the mortality data last night for the social sciences unit I always teach & getting an ominous feeling about data delays since 2023 and a vague site banner about President Trump’s Executive Orders but didn’t imagine it was being eviscerated at that literal moment 😵‍💫

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

“each can contains charcoal residue from at least 6 endangered species of butterfly and formerly diverse forest plants from centuries of indigenous stewardship!” “taste the heady spice of the highest carbon footprint meat that is ALSO actively reducing the world’s carbon absorption capacity!”

the fact that rate my professor—violently commodifying and dehumanizing instructors w/o their consent or ability to opt out— is the ‘benign’ comparison is really a sign of how deep we are into the danger zone

like replacing bad bunny with a senator’s cousin who goes to a local karaoke bar twice a year

no, of course not, that’s transparently obvious, but the academic equivalent is often that plus the mediocre white guy they select like hasn’t even stepped foot in a university since his parents paid for him to binge drink his way thru a lesser Ivy 30 years ago

usually when I cave & eat beef mostly out of a need for heme iron I soothe myself that at least it’s almost certainly US beef &
& while the footprint is bad it’s not like slash-and-burn-rainforest beef but I accidentally bought a can of food lion corned beef hash that is openly a product of Brazil 😭

“The compact does require schools not to punish, intimidate or incite violence against conservative ideas.” What you describe as punishment, intimidation, or incitement of violence is most often “Hmmm, tell me how you got there. Where does the text support that claim?”

people do not make $60k+ unless they are selling something unethical. that's not real. and you can't talk to older generations about this bc they're all residually making at least that much and they cannot comprehend that society no longer exists

you know how occupational/earnings by degree field numbers have a “over 25” breakout so you see the “non-entry” salaries? at this point we need an inverse category, “only what they’re paying people born in 1990 or later.” these income ranges might as well be fictional when they include Gen x/boomers

Ring founder: “I’m focused on: How can I get the highest density of camera coverage in a neighborhood matched with AI to make neighborhoods safer?…It’s not just hard crime.”

Just put this guy and the Flock guy on a deserted island together so they can surveill each other until the end times.

*arguing not fighting I mean, I should not be trying to articulate things while brain fogged from cramps 🤦🏼‍♀️
nogoodwyfe.bsky.social
no disagreement from me but wanted to note that this conversation started in the small humanities academia corner of bsky where we are all cursed to enjoy picking apart the semantics & symbolism of things that are not recent :) so more that than fighting! anyway I too wish everyone a good weekend

I feel like it all comes down to a shared experience of mom walks into the kitchen in the morning and you see her making a batter and the same batter could be either pancakes or waffles so the opposition is implied bc only one gets made. now I am also thinking too much about this lol

so the regional arepas types would kind of work but they’re both a main meal component so maybe in that sense not? I think the closest parallels would have to be opposing two side dishes or even condiments
