Hello! As we’re seeing a big influx of new folk on here thought I’d reintroduce myself. Studied English Lit and creative writing at MMU; specialising in screenwriting and playwriting. Have hosted live tweets of hit BBC dramas with screenwriters/exec prods. Write TV dramas + stage plays. #ScriptSky

Given we need these jabs twice a year that’s obviously twice the cost. Thankfully had mine last week via NHS, though if I had to save up and get it to stay safe; both my fiancé and I are clinically vulnerable, I certainly would. Do think it’s overpriced.

There’s a comment piece in The Times about sickness benefits mysteriously going up and no mention of Covid, long Covid, the effects of lockdown etc. Boosters help people stay healthy, but now they are only available to the very old or people who can afford them.

It’s dispiriting that this is what getting a COVID vaccination now looks like to this chronic asthmatic.

Know I bang on about screenwriting on here, but many screenwriters began their careers as playwrights (and vice versa). If you fancy dabbling into writing stage plays this looks very good. 👇

Had my flu jab yesterday. The guys who do it were just as brilliant and efficient. Wish I could say the same regarding the wider GP practice. Had a right faff getting my Covid jab
last week and wound up having it in the pharmacy housed under the practice having been refused it there.

From the Archive. Seamus Heaney writes to Faber editor Charles Monteith in May 1965 with a ‘selection of poems for your consideration.’ This selection of poems would become the groundbreaking collection, Death of a Naturalist.

Yet when you look them up online most chemists seem to be charging circa £79-99 mark.

Had to phone the NHS vaccination service in order to get my Covid vac booked because, and I kid you not, my GP surgery said they would decide if I was eligible and not the govt. This was despite receiving an email from NHS to say I was. Had the vac next day at the pharmacy beneath my GP practice.

Autumn/winter is a great time for watching ace dramas. Need to catch up on last night’s ‘All Creatures…’ No telly tonight. Too shattered. Been quite the day. Will let you know.
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
Need to watch that. Have fallen behind on watching a few cracking dramas over recent weeks. Will try to watch this in the next few days.

Very relieved to see a worthy winner. The man baby will be spitting mad. Feel for those around who’ll be on the crappy end of his ire.

Also depends a bit what kind of "uniformity of thought" we're talking about. I would hope faulty members and administrators uniformly think that democracy and academic freedom are good and to be protected; students "with different ideas" on that maybe need something other than college.

Quite a feat to go from this to "and therefore universities must ban faculty and students from belittling conservative ideas"

Nick Mohammed is a pocketful of pure joy. Also love Mark Bonnar to bits. #CelebrityTraitors

#CelebrityTraitors - SPOILER ALERT.

Damn. Paloma Faith! Love her to bits. Was hoping she would make it to the end.

Their misunderstanding of how creativity works is only matched by their misunderstanding of David Simon.
junoryleejournalism.com
David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Dear Lord! You wouldn’t expect your protagonist to turn to another character and say “Sort this crap out for me, will ya?” Because then the audience’s loyalties would transition to the secondary character. Also, problem solving is bloody good fun. Yes, irksome at times, it makes you think creatively
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
One of the main roles of a screenwriter is being able to imaginatively problem solve aspects of the story they’re creating.

Guess what, that’s something fundamentally screenwriters have in common with their protagonist: they’re both problem solvers.

Exactly. Keep thinking about what those families succumbed to the horrors of the immigration camps and those who somehow managed to survive it. That’s only one example. Clearly there are historically others in which families have survived (or not) human made atrocities. Impact/legacy is momentous.

Should also add here that @philralph.bsky.social has been incredibly important in highlighting the issues concerning opportunities for newer and more diverse writers and lack of them. This has been particularly pertinent since the loss of dramas and soaps such as Doctors and Holby City.
