Autumn/winter is a great time for watching ace dramas. Need to catch up on last night’s ‘All Creatures…’ No telly tonight. Too shattered. Been quite the day. Will let you know.

Need to watch that. Have fallen behind on watching a few cracking dramas over recent weeks. Will try to watch this in the next few days.

Very relieved to see a worthy winner. The man baby will be spitting mad. Feel for those around who’ll be on the crappy end of his ire.

Also depends a bit what kind of "uniformity of thought" we're talking about. I would hope faulty members and administrators uniformly think that democracy and academic freedom are good and to be protected; students "with different ideas" on that maybe need something other than college.

Quite a feat to go from this to "and therefore universities must ban faculty and students from belittling conservative ideas"

Nick Mohammed is a pocketful of pure joy. Also love Mark Bonnar to bits. #CelebrityTraitors

#CelebrityTraitors - SPOILER ALERT.

Damn. Paloma Faith! Love her to bits. Was hoping she would make it to the end.

Their misunderstanding of how creativity works is only matched by their misunderstanding of David Simon.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Dear Lord! You wouldn’t expect your protagonist to turn to another character and say “Sort this crap out for me, will ya?” Because then the audience’s loyalties would transition to the secondary character. Also, problem solving is bloody good fun. Yes, irksome at times, it makes you think creatively
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
One of the main roles of a screenwriter is being able to imaginatively problem solve aspects of the story they’re creating.

Guess what, that’s something fundamentally screenwriters have in common with their protagonist: they’re both problem solvers.

Exactly. Keep thinking about what those families succumbed to the horrors of the immigration camps and those who somehow managed to survive it. That’s only one example. Clearly there are historically others in which families have survived (or not) human made atrocities. Impact/legacy is momentous.

Should also add here that @philralph.bsky.social has been incredibly important in highlighting the issues concerning opportunities for newer and more diverse writers and lack of them. This has been particularly pertinent since the loss of dramas and soaps such as Doctors and Holby City.

Also have another pain relief med I’m taking, as and when needed. Doc’s might prefer me to take the entire dosage rate, only I would be completely wiped out and incapable of anything. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Hopefully hospital appts next week will come up with some answers.
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
Popping a little note on here to thank my followers for bearing with me over recent days and for several weeks to come. If my posts or replies don’t quite make sense to you right now it’s because I’m in high dose pain relief. My GP doubled it again yesterday. Normal dose 10x stronger than morphine.
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
No idea who you’re responding to as it says blocked. Clearly made the correct decision.

That’s no way to live, is it. Pure guesswork on my part here; happy to be educated otherwise, but this feels a bit like using the old oral traditions of passing knowledge down to family members and next generations. Though clearly the consequences were frequently more dire.
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
Jack has been pivotal in highlighting the lack of newer writers both in theatre as well as film and TV. IIRC he called it out at Edinburgh TV Festival, among other outlets. RTD has called it out. Would love to see more big name screenwriters to likewise.
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
Slightly awkward shout for me, because while I like Jack Thorne’s work; he also seems a solid good guy, I dearly want to see more opportunities for female screenwriters. Plus, in general feel we need to see TPTB take more risks on newer diverse writing ‘voices’ rather than the tried and tested.
nomadicwriter.bsky.social
That’s the nub of it. Nowhere near as many people who should care about these things do. Apathy can be dangerous medicine.

Yes. This is ironically something my fiancé and I were talking about over the weekend. He mentioned what they had to endure in pre-war 1930s. He’s descended from Russian Jews himself.
