Replace these “wireless telegraphs” with smartphones, update the dress a little, and this vision of "isolating technology" from a 1906 issue of Punch magazine could easily be from today: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/a-vision-of-isolating-technology-from-1906

Here's a sample of how we censor our comics for Facebook because they flag/delete our posts for sex/sexuality/gender-related words 😅
(Original comic from 2015: www.ohjoysextoy.com/girlsex-101/)
Girl Sex 101 review by Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan Aug 11, 2015 on https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/girlsex-101

Erika Moen draws with a cartoony style and limited pink color palette.

"haroo" mournfully howls Cassy, an East Indian trans woman with black hair just past her shoulders. She wears boots and a cute skirt and sleeved top. With a little "BOP" she kicks a small stone in the road.

"Why so glum, chum?" Asks Erika, who appears out of nowhere.

"Ugh!" Cassy exclaims. "I wanna have sex with women!!!"

"Hey, that's not a problem!" Erika laughs.

"It is when you don't know HOW!" She retorts and then begins spiraling as she demands, "What do I do? How does it work? What counts as 'sex'? How can I be any good at it?!?!"

"Oh dang, I've just finished reading a book I wish I'd had when I was asking those questions many years ago." Erika begins walking the two of them towards a larger-than-life size copy of a book. "Friend, you need to get your hands on a copy of Girl Sex 101 by Allison Moon and KD Diamond."

Notes around the book explain, "$25, 388 pages, soft cover"
Exact same page, but with peach emojis covering the words on the comic.

"haroo" mournfully howls Cassy, an East Indian 🏳️‍🌈 woman with black hair just past her shoulders. She wears boots and a cute skirt and sleeved top. With a little "BOP" she kicks a small stone in the road.

"Why so glum, chum?" Asks Erika, who appears out of nowhere.

"Ugh!" Cassy exclaims. "I wanna have 🔞 with women!!!"

Holding open the book, Erika continues, "Written by Allison Moon and illustrated by KD Diamond, this beast of a book covers almost every conceivable sexy encounter you might have with a woman."

"Ugh, Erika." Cassy snorts, crossing her arms in frustration. "Lesbian sex books never include ME, they're always written for and about cisgender women."

"This book IS for you!" Counters Erika. "It is written for ALL women and their many anatomies, from cis to trans and the non-binary shades in between."

Taking the book, Cassy gestures as it as she continues, "But a single writer can't represent EVERY type of woman!"

"One of the reasons I love this book is that Moon features the accumulated advice of 16 diverse sex educators and over 100 survey responders to feature a wide variety of people."

In the background are portraits of Jiz Lee, Ignacio Rivera, Tobi Hill-Meyer, Sandra Daugherty, and Julia Serano.

"Wow, there's a lot of different voices in here!" Says Cassy, holding open one half of the book while Erika holds the other. Leaning in closer to look at it, she says, "Color me interested."

"You should be! This isn't like any other sex ed book I've read before." Erika agrees.

One fed employee told me the internal conversations feel very different from previous shutdowns.

"Every other fed I've talked to agrees how much it sucks to be furloughed, but also that this shutdown needs to continue until the administration starts respecting the rule of law," said a NOAA employee. "Even the conservative Republicans."

Cuomo will not attack Trump or Tish James by name because he will be Trump's agent in NYC.

As Mamdani says, this is mealy-mouthed platitude by Cuomo, not a challenge to rising authoritanism.

Mamdani: I run against a disgraced former governor who, in this moment, has chosen to issue a statement in which he cannot even say the name Tish James, nor the name Donald Trump.

If you cannot say Trump’s name today—how will you stand up to him tomorrow?

Re-upping this piece on news that Vought is firing federal employees:
*Vought lying that shutdowns compel layoffs, never have before.
*Layoffs are a choice, the shutdown is an excuse.
*Comes on top of existing RIFs, will make restoring govt services harder post-shutdown.

No Kings protests, and anti-regime protests in general, serve two main positive functions:

1) Reminding participants and observers that they’re very far from alone, countering regime efforts to divide and isolate

2) Showing the absurdity of regime lies about the peaceful, pro-democracy opposition

Funny they can't say the name of protests because saying "No Kings" makes it soooo clear it's the opposite of a "hate America rally"
