Another example of this is restaurant traffic in the DC area is way down. People are getting one or two drinks at a bar during happy hour and then leaving. In a 150 seat restaurant last night only one table was occupied. Meanwhile, I saw a group of Trump officials dressed up for a private party.

Alternative take, the US is two economies, the crypto AI group raking in cash, which they use on luxury travel, and the rest of us staring at what looks like a self inflicted recession due to tariffs and the destruction of government services, and hence cutting back on travel.

This may be a daft question but do we know if all these emails going out sacking CDC staff are legal? Ie. Could this be performance theater by Lord Voldemort? Make people believe they are sacked when legally they are not? I mean, it’s not like they keep having to walk firings back all the time.

Farm bankruptcies are back in the news, so it's time to pull this chart out again.

Hey look they kept rising during Trump's first term. Then they went way down under Biden.

Now they're up again? So weird. Thanks Farm Bureau for the graphic
Screenshot from Farm Bureau article on farm bankruptcies. It shows farm bankruptcies climbing steadily 2014-2020, falling by half in 2021, & continuing to fall through 2023.

CDC leaders asked staff to report if they’d received RIF notices—plus details like years of service and whether they’d been reinstated before.

Why?

Because these decisions weren’t made inside the agency. They came from political operatives outside CDC, apparently.

Yale researchers analyzed data from 158 million US workers and found that even after the pandemic, COVID-19 continues to raise work absences by 13% and labor force exits by 13%.

The virus has created a new year-round baseline similar to flu season.

Good time to invest in funeral homes. As well be seeing the death rate go up over the next few years.

I've noticed quite a few pedestrians not crossing at crosswalks in DC, and drivers not paying attention to them when they do, so I think that's a factor, along with badly lit streets and the size of current vehicles. i.e. There's not one answer but a multitude
