It was also Columbia's extra-harsh crackdown on protestors of Israel's ruthless campaign in Gaza that set off a wave of similarly aggressive crackdowns at campuses across the U.S.

An extraordinary -- and consequential -- run of bad decision-making from Columbia administrators.

It's clearer by the day that Columbia making a deal with Trump in July was a catastrophe for higher education as a whole. It gave terrible people a bottomless appetite for extortion. The other eight universities must follow MIT's lead.

The mere concept of a person who is mad they didn't get the Nobel Peace Prize is ridiculous and absurd.

A long list of bad reasons tho.

Then again, the entire country is being run into the ground right now for no good reason. So I'm not super confident CBS News will be any different.

Not only is Weiss flagrantly unqualified for the CBS gig. But Free Press audience has little to do with CBS News's audience and the two orgs' approaches are very different. Even her actual experience is non-transferrable.

I'm quite certain Bari Weiss will do a bad job as "editor-in-chief" of CBS News. What I'm curious to see is how much rot/decay of the brand will happen before someone more powerful than her says "enough." Or when the rank and file staff revolts en masse.

It's a stupid and avoidable case study.

The "pro-life" party in action:

The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today.

The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly.

We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.

Huh: TikTok took down my 8-second video featuring this image of Debbie Brockman — the news producer just detained by Trump’s CBP agents — saying it violates the “joy of TikTok”

MIT President Kornbluth announced on Friday the university “cannot support” Trump’s compact, saying the university disagreed with a number of the principles laid out in the document, including policies that would limit freedom of expression and institutional independence.
