I'm going to embarrass myself and admit I don't get why the prevailing wisdom is visual novels/dating sims, etc. are only complete after clearing every route.

Game reacting to my decisions and ending accordingly? Magic.
Repeating until I've exhausted every choice? That's a checklist, not a story.

tekken 4 tried to make the series "true" 3D rather than "sort of but not really 3D" and it's a fascinating game who's ideas I sort of wish got more refinement, but yeah Tekken 5 pulled back on a lot of that and focused on a more streamlined idea of 3D Tekken and they did nail that, at least.

at some point I really think there needs to be some sort of large scale pushback on Valve for their complete abdication of responsibility in moderating steam forums to every individual developer regardless of whether or not they asked for it, allowing this tumour to completely fester.
