I'm not 100% here to contest this because when video games try to be Book it works out pretty well surprisingly often. broadening horizons is good. try more things. read a book!!

but also nobody would ever tell an author they need to play more videogames, would they. what's up with that.
The author of the novels that inspired Shin Megami Tensei and Persona says developers should take more inspiration from other media to invent new gameplay systems.

If they only take inspiration from games they'll just make the same games, he says.

one of the funniest things about Ubisoft cancelling a bunch of games is that they have specifically singled out BG&E2 as *not* being cancelled. Absolutely incredible bit. Mystifying sense of priority, they shitcanned Sands of Time Remake but they "remain committed" to BG&E2? What?

i worry my thoughts on the topic don't entirely come across properly because of course, global participation is Good, basically. but put it this way, despite twitter being like, 20% japanese users or something, I doubt most of you acquired any real idea of japanese politics from the site?

"bluesky is mostly american users! it's an echo chamber"

yes, of course but also that's true of every single website used by the english speaking internet. this is one of those things that's just, a population heatmap lol. not actually that remarkable!

sometimes I worry that all I post being random musings gives the impression that all I do all day is sit on my ass and play rhythm games

and while that is absolutely my goal in life, i've been chipping away at this and that every day, almost have a complete script for a video done now

i think if you download endfield onto your actual god-given Desktop Computer and try to launch it, it should just automatically launch a ps2 emulator with God Hand instead because what in the fuck are you doing playing something like that on your desktop. have more dignity.

I feel like DOOM (1993) and Street Fighter 2 (1991) have to be among the canonical correct answers to this question, both being early entries for the types of game they even are and yet still among the best of that type.
I actually am curious to know what people think are the earliest video games that have a serious claim to being the best in their genre. Not like “good for the time,” but like genuinely better than anything else out there.

Ubisoft execs be like: Wait, no. That's not how the story went.
Ubisoft has cancelled 6 games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake www.videogameschronicle.com/news/ubisoft...

Ubisoft also announced it was delaying seven other games, to “ensure enhanced quality benchmarks are fully met”

Love the Fuga devs totally insane approach to storytelling where they reveal info like "these two characters get married" as part of an *in-person art exhibition* exclusive to three Japanese cities. Photography not allowed.

if you thought yoko taro or kingdom hearts was weird, oh brother

this account is so good but also, there's no way this game is actually releasing in five days, right? like is that really still what they're going with?

Gaming doesn’t count as screen time. Gaming is books. Unless it’s on your phone - that is screen time. Movies are books unless they are Marvel, who produce screen time. Television is screen time.

what if hatsune miku was implicated in severe financial fraud. what would any of you do then. would you still love her.

i've been playing the first project diva just to kind of do something that isn't unbeatable for a spell. i do not like that you must unlock hard mode by clearing normal.

Why do people frame this like not using AI is some grandstanding display of principles, using words like "absitinence" and shit.

There's no need to get a principle involved here. The product sucks and it produces shoddy results, therefore it would be a bad idea to use it. It is that simple.
AI sits in billions of phones. Refusing to engage won't stop it, just leaves vulnerable people without knowledge. Demand ownership and control, not abstinence.
Abstinence From AI Is Not the Answer
Opinion | Refusing to use AI won’t protect society. Responsible resistance must include gaining knowledge about it.
