I usually go a few years between SOTN playthroughs, and in that time I slowly forget that it's one of the most fun games ever made.

Then I start playing it and immediately remember that it is in fact one of the most fun games ever made.

Death's bumbling minions, Slogra and Gaibon, a sort of Bebop and Rocksteady or Bulk and Skull duo, foolishly step to Alucard, seemingly unaware that he's going to destroy their dumb asses with his sexy vampire prowess.

In Castlevania's elaborate clock room, Alucard crosses paths with the mysterious Maria Renard. She leans against the wall like a cool lady before introducing herself and explaining her quest to locate the missing heir to the Belmont clan, her homeboy Richter.

Alucard naively attempts to parley with a nice young lady, perhaps unaware that she isn't a real lady but rather the mimic tail of a ferocious ambush-hunting beast.

Progressing through the twisted entrails of Castlevania, Alucard is assaulted by a doppelganger from the cosmic void. Uninterested in a psychological battle, Alucard simply beats the doppelganger into submission and banishes it back to the infinite abyss.

The eccentric Master Librarian of Castlevania rises from his seat to greet Alucard. Always fond of the young master, he reluctantly agrees to offer up his wares, knowing full well that they will be used to vanquish his true master and Lord of Castlevania, the Prince of Evil, Dracula.

In front of a massive painting depicting a plague of winged skeletons reaping the souls of men, Alucard does battle with a ferocious hippogryph, a chimeric monster half eagle, half horse.

Alucard bravely leaps into the tangled mess of hissing snakes and snarling wolves that constitute the body of the watery goddess Scylla, his sword hungry for violence.

Alucard clutches his cape to his chest with trepidation as the skeletal Charon ferries him up a treacherous underground river.

I made a point of venturing into the PS2 part of my shelves for this #RandomGameSaturday and pulled out…
