I designed this symbol using the morew and shiki motifs to represent the movements of the Ainu diaspora, the Repunkuru. Waves moving across the ocean in every direction, but our hearts still return to the center with our ancestors in Ainu Moshiri 🌊🌊🌊🌊
An Ainu motif made of four turquoise waves around a red four-point star in the center, on a dark blue field

Finished up a wolf pawprint tapestry!! Still shaking the dust off my sewing skills after not using them for a while, so there’s definitely some flaws on this tapestry, but I’m still happy with how it turned out!!

palestinian lesbians once again ✨
{ #art #pride }
Digital art Illustration of two women in a tender embrace in front of a arched window. Both women are Palestinian and wearing elaborately decorated traditional thobes. The woman to the left has a deeper skin tone and a tender smile. Her braided black hair is decorated with silver ornaments towards the bottom.

The woman to the right is wearing a heavy coin headdress that has chains leading down to her waist. Her face has subtle tattoos that match those on her hand.

In the arched window behind them there are palm trees in the distance and foliage that coveres the bottom of the window.

(8) "According to Matsuura Takeshiro's "Saru Journal," there were a total of 116 villagers who made up 26 households in Nibutani, Pipaus, and Kankan in 1858. Of these, 43 men and women had been drafted for forced labor. My grandfather, Totkaram, at age 11, was the youngest of them."

Shigeru Kayano's memoir, Our Land Was A Forest, highlights why a game like Ghost of Yotei might be uncomfortable with the actual relationship between Ainu and samurai, where soldiers trafficked children into slavery.

"The 'location' where Nibutani Ainu were taken as slaves was Atsukeshi..." (1)

ghost of yotei reminds me of this book I read about "making asian americans" or whatever, constantly framing "america" as a place that already existed for them to come to, as opposed to Indigenous Nations they had to invade and tear down to build their amerikkka on top of

All games are political, they all have an agenda to sell, and it's usually settler colonialism.

The thing is, in the REAL 1603 Ainu still had the upper hand on the island as Wajin only occupied a small part.

The way Hokkaido’s portrayed in the game makes it look more like more than a century later after Ainu power had waned with increased settlement.

Strange direction that feeds revisionism

Even without looking at gameplay it’s easy to tell what it’s going for.

Ginkgo leaves are everywhere. Not just on the cover but also in the logo and display props.

Ginkgo trees aren’t native to Hokkaido - colonists brought over much later than the game’s setting of 1603.
A close up of a display at Yodobashi Camera which is marketing Ghost of Yōtei.
Strings of printed Ginkgo leaves are hanging from the drop-ceiling above the main display area.

Some of the leaves have the game’s name and logo printed on the reverse side.
