Changes to the English language requirement were first reported in May when the government published their early plans in the immigration white paper. The new standard requires people to express themselves “fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expression” and to be able to communicate flexibly in social, academic and work situations.

So many places seem to be using AI to review CVs as well. If I listed everything I’ve used, it would be too long. Frustrating

Bot accounts on LinkedIn as well, trying to connect and asking shed loads of time wasting questions. The fact I’m having to use LinkedIn in the first place is bad enough.

I don’t think they do. I went to Sweden in 2001, and the town (Helsingborg) had two bars, both British style places (one was like a country pub, the other sounded like a Slug & Lettuce).

The locals preferred to go back and forth on the ferry to Denmark drinking on the bar in there instead.

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
