This is lovely, I hope it happens. Art Garfunkel being bummed before a ticketed audience of 135,000 politely applauding boomers

The thought of knobbing 80s Bob Dylan otoh is tremendously distressing, the man looked like a gaudy croissant

It isn't too late for them to make this happen, perhaps to the accompaniment of a chamber orchestra playing "Old Friends" and "Cecilia". In Central Park

Which reminds me of a rather Pynchonian moment. In early 1970s Suva, Fiji, someone graffitied the street wall of a religious seminary with "Hendrix Is God!" The admin didn't paint over this blasphemy but instead carefully added another 'o' to 'God'.

I'm a third of the way in and I'm rapturously thrilled with it so far. I don't even care if, as I've seen some reviewers claiming, the plot crumbles as it progresses. I'm here for the turns of phrase, the character names, the under-ice rogue Austro-Hungarian U-boats and the stupid acronyms.

I felt something similar after Jerzy Skolimowski returned to filmmaking after a 17-year break, during which I assumed that that would be that; he was already seventy when he made his comeback. And it was as if he'd never been away.

Shadow Ticket might not be Gravity's Rainbow or Mason & Dixon (we already have those, so that's fine) but it's full of pleasures and really at this point gratitude is the only appropriate response

Something slightly uncanny about reading a new Pynchon in 2025, akin to (but uh rather better than) listening to a new Stones album. He belongs to a more heroic age and yet here's that voice again, as familiar and miraculous as a lover's face

My book, Killing Children in British Fiction: Thatcherism to Brexit, is now out from @sunypress.bsky.social.

'An authoritative, acute, and insightful book...makes a powerful case for child killing as an index of our times' - @bobeaglestone.bsky.social.

France’s new prime minister is…the very one who resigned on Monday, Sébastien Lecornu. It rounds off the most chaotic and absurdist week in French politics in modern times
