Cynical idealist, unreliable narrator. Half kvetching about people, half sports, half music, half pop culture, half politics, etc. not representative of any employer. #NYisBlue. Posting is a form of stimming. I swear a lot.

Yeah the part where Azaria talks in an American accent for a bit was particularly jarring in retrospect.

The episode of the Simpsons where Springfield votes to expel immigrants and have to learn that immigrants are actually both good people and essential is on and it reminds me how heart this show once had and how the cynical both sides suck content (e.g. South Park) has helped break our society.

The thing about the Roberts Court is they're not evil geniuses, because they're not geniuses.

“More than three dozen federal judges have told The New York Times that the Supreme Court’s flurry of brief, opaque emergency orders in cases related to the Trump administration have left them confused about how to proceed in those matters and are hurting the judiciary’s image with the public.”

They're delegitimizing themselves in substance by subverting the Constitution and aiding the establishment of a lawless autocracy. But they're further delegitimizing themselves because they really don't understand, and can't even halfway convincingly mimic, how the Court is supposed to function.

There’s a possibility, which we shouldn’t rule out, that this backfires on the admin because it can’t redirect the funds before payday comes. (The people with the knowledge to make that happen may be furloughed, for starters.)

Anyway, that’s what I’m watching for.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

lol gentle reminder that DEI is not illegal. Supporting marginalized groups is not illegal. Anyone reneging on support is making a CHOICE to do so.

Or as the New York Times puts it: “Mr. Trump's budgetary maneuvering appeared unorthodox…”
Mr. Trump's budgetary maneuvering appeared unorthodox, even though it may spare more than 1 million active-duty service members from the financial hardship of missing a paycheck next week. It was not clear how much money the administration had at its disposal, and how long it could rely on accounting moves to pay troops during the shutdown.

There are a number of accounts on Tiktok and IG that do extremely important work walking viewers through AI-generated slop videos like this and help them think critically about what they are seeing, how to spot it, etc. It’s a new era of critical media literacy instruction and I am happy to see it

That TikTok account has a few fake videos of reporters getting detained. They make these videos because it’s a big story in the news. Real reporters are getting arrested. And so people are making AI videos to get engagement on TikTok.

Again, and forever, if Trump -- with the leverage he has now -- can't compel the release of Marwan Barghouti, then he is content with only another pause in the century of bloodshed in The Levant. Barghouti marginalizes and affronts extremists on both sides and means real negotiations and two states.

Don’t feel stupid if you fell for fake video. It can be really hard to tell these days. But we do have to try and be careful with what we share because there’s so much AI video out there.

It’s just the world we live in now.
