The entire HR department at the CDC is gone. Everyone at the IRB, which makes sure studies are conducted ethically and rigorously, and the ethics office, which oversee conflicts of interest for CDC leaders and advisory committee members, were also let go.

• What is the theory for why this works?
• Through lots of careful study-collecting data, and thinking hard-scientists have a theory about why this happens:
• Your eyes saw the face saying a sound that's made at the back of the mouth.
• Your ears heard a sound that's made at the front of the mouth.
• Your brain blended this information together, and made you think you're heard a sound made in the middle of the mouth.

I'm so sorry to share that Friedemann Pulvermüller, brilliant neuroscientist, has passed. He gave Embodiment ideas legs and worked tirelessly on treatments for stroke victims during his storied career. His kindness and wry humor made him sparkle.

Now that Halloween programming is abundant, I have to drop my hot take: Ghost-based horror stories aren’t scary. The worst thing they can do to you is kill you, in which case you apparently just become a ghost? Except now you don’t pay rent, and your only job is to shut doors and play with dolls.
