A-8A Shrike, 3rd attack group formation, 154th observation squadron.
Still my all-time favorite ugly plane, though it has plenty of contemporaries who could give it a run for its money.

This is who invented daylight savings time. Just so you know. Like, if you don't mind helping the Kaiser ravage Europe, that's ok, I'm not judging. But I thought you should be aware.

I will not, as discussed before, read another single story that is clutching pearls about people's reproductive choices. But every time I see one, I'll remind you that there is no economic problem that cannot be solved with immigration and/or taxing wealth hoarders.

The Russification of the American military
This has absolutely nothing to do with readiness
Vietnam, French Indochina, November 1945. The city hall of Cần Thơ, built in classic French style, and a market, probably in Mỹ Tho.

November 1945: Riverine operations on the Mekong.

1. Debarkation of troops at Vinh-Long to relieve the garrison in place.
2. A recon unit in a small boat is detached to scout a branch of the river.

Chiang Kai-Shek, because of his terrors and corruption is a controversial figure, but so is destroying all the statues he made of himself once he realized he needed a legacy

the compromise? They are piling them around his mausoleum in the "Garden of the Generalissimos"

“70% of wage-earning adults who rely on government programs like SNAP and Medicaid work full-time, many at hugely profitable companies like Walmart and McDonald’s whose low wages are effectively subsidized by tax dollars without any of the blame or paternalistic lectures.”
SNAP benefits feed essential needs while still leaving many hungry for more
Journalist and author Adam Chandler explains what so much of the conversation about them gets wrong.

Awesome detail shared by a reddit user: One of the ships pictured, LST 393, still survives as a museum ship in Michigan! Another user shared a page from the ship's diary, showing that she was loading troops in Oran on 16 Nov. 1943, which allows us to date these photos!
New month so for the next 30 days it will be primarily photos from November 1939-1945.

I find it always feels more immediate when seasonal conditions align between real life and the photos I share, though Algeria and Southern Italy are probably more temperate this time of year than my location!
Happy Halloween, joyeuse Toussaint, and welcome to November!

In Nov. 1943, the French Expeditionary Force (CEF) boarded American LSTs for transport from North Africa to Naples. Here the 2e Division d'Infanterie Marocaine embarks in Oran, Algeria. [1/3]

[4/3 because I miscounted like usual] Arrival of the 2e Division d'Infanterie Marocaine (DIM), part of the French Expeditionary Corps (CEF) in Naples, November 1943. The North African troops were clearly greeted with some curiosity by locals.

[2/3] The 2e DIM (2nd Moroccan Infantry Division) aboard a US navy convoy from Oran, Algeria to Naples, Italy. The men in photos 3 & 4 belong to the 3e Régiment de Spahis Marocains, a mechanized cavalry reconnaisance unit.

Bask in the unfeasible glory that is Aotearoa New Zealand's only locally designed and built Tank.
We need proportional representation and the abolition of the senate. Both are about equally achievable so why stop halfway?

It's honestly astonishing how many WWII-era hulls have gone on to have incredibly long lifespans, one of the fascinating elements of the maritime industry.
Third model looks closest to the "US Standard" fire hydrant- after the great Baltimore fire in the 1800s there was a push for standardization as multiple types were in use throughout the city and not all fire companies had compatible hoses. But there are still substantial differences between cities.

The best thing about proportional representation is that the US would actually have political parties pursuing an actual programme. Today it's nothing but an amorphous brand, structurally incapable of legislating.
