Bringing my French WWII photos thread to Bluesky

Anti-Aircraft gunners of the 402e RADCA (Air Defense Regiment) hooping in March 1940.
The Saint-Charles-Borromée church in the background of the first photo allows us to situate the location as Place Crussy in the city center. Considerably changed today.

A quick round-up of my posts from the past week taken in and around Colmar in February 1945. The French army archives have 13 albums dedicated to the liberation of the city, but only four have thus far been digitized and made available online.

During these days in Feb 1937 up to 300,000 women, children, elderly and infirm fled after the fall of Málaga. 3-5000 were slaughtered as they tried to reach Almería by Francoist, Italian and Nazi bombing, strafing and shelling. It was the single worst massacre of #SpanishCivilWar.

Republican mechanics having lunch in front of a Soviet designed Polikarpov I-16 plane, nicknamed "mosca". Els Monjos Aerodrome, Barcelona province, 1938. The Spanish Republic's colours and all-American proletarian hero Popeye painted on the tail. Original by David Seymour, colourised by Doug Banks.

Reviewing video from Fulton County elections raid.

Taken aback by the dismissive & sneering attitude from FBI agents toward the cop politely asking to see the warrant.

Looked him up: He's an immigrant w/ a doctorate in philosophy. His thesis? "Force by police officers toward African Americans."

Just want to reiterate that before WW1 the idea that you would even have to have so much as a passport to cross a border was seen as a hopelessly backwards relic of serfdom

"Borders" in the Bible are not at all the "borders" constructed by the 20th and 21st centuries
Q: Pope Leo cited Matthew 25:35 to critique Donald Trump's mass deportation agenda. How would you respond to Pope Leo in scripture?

MIKE JOHNSON: Sovereign borders are biblical and right and just. It's not because we hate the people on the outside. It's because we love the people on the inside.

The emerging narrative from the people who worked for Biden seems to be "we debased ourselves repeatedly and violated our own laws for Israel and Israel won't even say thank you".

Was going to complain that Hollywood should do a movie about the Red Ball Express, then I looked to see if it had already been done.

It had.

In 1952.

Starring Jeff Chandler, and a really young Sidney Poitier.

Watching it now.

It's very 1952.

Could still do with a modern telling.

This is an important, credible, and damning article about the IDF in Gaza by Andy Milburn, a retired US Marine Raider colonel with combat experience from Fallujah and Mosul who maintained close contact with IDF officers during the war (while keeping a low public profile). Read the whole thing.
Gaza and the Conduct of Urban War: Civilian Harm, Risk, and Responsibility
Urban warfare is often invoked as an alibi: dense terrain, an embedded enemy, human shields, imperfect intelligence. These conditions are real but they do

"Okay boss, I'm good at the language of images so you want the dissident facing the camera, defiant, and the agent of the state faceless, back to the camera, as if they're cowering in shame, right?"
Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera.

Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.
