Also, it is GORGEOUS out here - the sun is lovely and warm, and the couple of pubs I walked past all had full tables of people wearing t-shirts sat outside

"...need. I was always like, ‘Let her rest, let her recover.’ But what Walter has written seems so true to me as very much about the society that would incarcerate someone who has tried to help mankind."

I don't know how many posts I've made about Sigourney and Alien 5, but here's another one.
Sigourney Weaver Has Met With Disney About a New ‘Alien’ Script: “It’s a Very Strong First 50 Pages”
The actress also spoke at New York Comic Con about what was really behind the crew clashes with James Cameron on the sequel.

Alien 5

Sigourney Weaver: "Walter Hill is a very good friend of mine, and he wrote 50 pages where Ripley would be now, and they are quite extraordinary. I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but I have had a meeting with Fox, Disney, or whoever it is now. I said I have never felt the..."

You may have to, yes - the only condition that now qualifies you for a free covid jab is if you are immunocompromised

A lot of people who were previously eligible have been turning up and finding out they have to pay - even though their GP had contacted them about it

Pharmacies facing angry patients over Covid jab confusion
Up to half of patients coming to some pharmacies are being turned away because they are not eligible.

I had the Novavax last year for £55 and that is a much better vaccination - I was genuinely gutted when I found out you can't get it in the UK this year

I am glad she is doing so well, bless her

Reminder that pharmacies have to pay the wholesale list prices for medications (which keep going up) but only get reimbursed a set amount from the NHS (which has stayed the same)

Pharmacy managers feel trapped in NHS funding system
Pharmacies say they are not getting enough funding to pay for the medicines they need to dispense.

You can read the advice here

Interesting that the 'example' cost for the covid jab is £25, so someone is making a tidy profit here

Likely the manufacturer, but pharmacies may also be taking a cut - they've long been unhappy with the amount of NHS funding they get

It is insane they basically removed every eligible medical condition unless you're immunocompromised

This is based on expert scientific advice, which was provided to the Govt last year and accepted

Covid is now a mild illness for most (apparently)

It’s dispiriting that this is what getting a COVID vaccination now looks like to this chronic asthmatic.
scientits.bsky.social
Sorry to hear this, Sooz - it is properly shit that most of the population are just being abandoned to what is still a horrible virus
scientits.bsky.social
This year

They removed pretty much every eligible medical condition except people who are immunocompromised

It is really shit because £100 is not a small amount!

Just watched The Last of Sheila, which @rianjohnson.bsky.social recommended during his #LondonFilmFestival talk (which @scientits.bsky.social kindly invited me to). Very enjoyable and smart too - funny and nasty, and you can see how it influenced Glass Onion.
Left to right, James Mason, Raquel Welch, Joan Hackett, Ian McShane, Dyan Cannon and Richard Benjamin, all under a sign that reads 'Sheila'

I really want to see this now - how did you watch, is it on a streamer?

with the official IUCN listing for the slender-billed curlew now being Extinct here is the rather sad piece I wrote about what went into this decision

I tried to include everything we know about their behaviour and biology, which is tragically little 🪶🧪

One year ago today, a spectacular aurora display graced the night sky across much of the globe. This was my view in *Oklahoma.* What a beautiful world we are fortunate to live on. #photography
Pink, green, and orange aurora pillars with a SAR arc and moon-lit clouds over relatively still waters of a large lake. The andromeda galaxy between a red SAR arc and the Milky Way. Numerous pinkish aurora pillars with a bluish-purple sky and spotty clouds over relatively still waters of a large lake. Private Eye offers up an excellently scornful commentary on the relentless polling. It’s become ridiculous and has oversimplified our politics to dangerous levels of stupid and irresponsible.
SHOCK POLL:
NIGEL FARAGE WILL BE PM TOMORROW
IN an amazing poll conducted
by The Pointless Polling Company, it was revealed that voters' intentions
may well change over the next three and a half years and at present it's 100 percent impossible to guess what the next government might look like.
However, 99 percent of journalists
agree that it would be much more fun if we had an election tomorrow and everybody resigned and everything was chaos and Farage had a go at being PM, just for the hell of it, because it was so much fun when
Brexit happened and then the government kept falling every five minutes and we could write endless pieces about (cont. p94)

I’m not interested at all, you’d have to pay me a lot of money to stand in the cold waiting for fireworks but…it used to be free!

Just more and more ‘how can we monetise this?’

I have two tickets for @warringtonruncorn.com in Manchester tomorrow but have been cruelly stricken with a sickness so can no longer go.

Free to anyone who wants to go - for a small donation to a charity that supports local refugees and asylum seekers.
