He/him. Pretty queer. Writer when I can actually focus, drone pilot, media enthusiast. Doctor Who stuff happens against my better judgement.

I like plenty. Enjoyed One Battle After Another a lot last night, though with criticisms, because nothing is perfect and engaging with that is interesting.

Really proud of this season, and as I work on post-production the finished show already sounds so much better than this trailer. You're in for a treat!

(Also listen to season 1 if you haven't already.)

I saw ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER at the Alamo Drafthouse last night,, which is probably the most dads who've ever been at a PTA meeting.

The film to me was more about validating the best parent than it was taking a stand on revolution and positions DiCaprio as the centrist best parent between two titans of a war.

Saw One Battle After Another. Great filmmaking but reminded me a lot of the weaknesses of Killers of the Flower Moon - far too long for its own good (nearly 3 hours!), and far too impressed with a self-consciously actorly Leonardo DiCaprio performance that really isn't earning all that screen time.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

I blink away from my Doctor Who hyperfixation and brilliant friends are volumes into awesome projects like this in the meantime. I love to see it.

The post credits little bts blurb genuinely improves the film, hitting you again with what makes this film exciting - that it's a weirdo little experiment by film nerds who love dogs and wanted to push editing and animal wrangling as far as it can go. And it's genuinely cool they did this.

That said, the shortcomings are worth noting: it's a little too slow and a little too light on incident even for a brisk 73 minutes. The editing is disorienting, in places by design, but in places in ways that feel like it lacks adequate coverage. And it could be clearer with what it's saying.

Good Boy was imperfect, but it does perfectly deliver the reminder that, damn, filmmaking is fucking cool. Just a love letter to the Kuleshov effect and the eagerness of audiences to emotionally protect onto a dog. Audience ate it up. Neat weirdo little movie.
