Some of this year’s costumes told an intriguing narrative; some were mere pamphlets; others attempted to stretch a short story into a novella.

Mr. Laos is a 5-book series in hardback with stamped foil, painted edges, and exclusive midnight-release extras. Well done, sir.

Mr Laos. Just when you though this year was a bit quiet on the insanely huge, bedazzled, symbolic costumes along comes Mr Laos and blows everyone else out of the water. This is insane, but it's also *so* good.

My boss: so how's our fourth quarter looking?

I’m a total weirdo that I love the first smudge(s) on a fresh cookbook.

#SmallJoys
3 slight chocolatey smudges on pages 44-45 of Lacie Ostermann’s now-iconic “3 Doughs 60 Recipes” aka the Hot Chocolate Focaccia. These smudges are from my homemade hot cocoa blend i/o store bought hot chocolate mix.

There’s a certain con that used to invite them every year, I think, as a GoH. The original organizer, I learned firsthand, was a covert racist, so 😒

I stopped going years ago. I had hopes to return when new organizers took over but noped out upon seeing the same asshole as a GoH—again 😑

If this is who I think, I was at that con when it happened. When I found out, I stopped attending her panels. Suddenly, where she’d previously been indifferent to my friendly overtures, she instead struck up a convo with me out of the blue. 🙄

Pretty sure it’s only Jesus if grown in the Nazareth region. Otherwise it’s just sparkling Brian.

The Education Department has hired at least 9 people from the America First Policy Institute, co-founded by Secretary Linda McMahon.

The think tank’s listed goals include ending the separation of church and state and “plant[ing] Jesus in every space.”

💜FIELDS OF FUJIBAKAMA🌿

Each year a parcel of meadow in Ōharano (大原野), to the south west of the city, is transformed into an oasis of thoroughwort. 'Fujibakama-en' (フジバカマ園) is one of the best places in Kyōto to catch sight of this endangered flower 'in the wild'.

Nao-san enjoys a field of fujibakama south of the city. Fujibakama-en is a popular autumn destination in Oharano. In recent years the flower has increasingly become endangered in the wild. Mother Jones has substantially more paid subscribers than Bari Weiss’ Free Press, so perhaps someone should put us in charge of a TV network.
Nice little TV network you got there
How easily has Trump rolled corporate media? So much more easily than he probably expected.

“In 2017, Kenyan conservationist Dr Mordecai Ogada published the book The Big Conservation Lie, which criticised ‘white saviours’ like Goodall...Have any African conservationists received a damehood or regular well-paid speaking opportunities across the world for their work?”

With Jane Goodall's death last week and the Nobel Prize announcements this week, I wrote about why it's a big problem that we lionise individuals for achievements that resulted from the work of collective groups of people.
We spend too much time lionising people like Jane Goodall
Idolising people only entrenches the idea that it is spectacular individuals, not collectives, who change the world.

I know Jane Goodall was revered by many in the environment movement, but it is pretty clear that she also harboured many seriously problematic colonial attitudes.

The 'overpopulation' stuff in particular was pretty bad, and as a concept the conduit of plenty of serious wrongdoing over the years
