My 10yo is so good at reading out loud and doing character voices and emotions. We read the first chapter of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki together, taking different characters, and it’s just a blast.

(My kids love horror and ch1 isn’t that bad)

Maybe you are just an anxious personality. Sherman’s not falling very far and he’s tanking these little drops. Bulldogs are just silly. Anxiety can be protective, but try not to let it protect you from having fun 💕

When drugs hit Black communities, it was a “crack epidemic.”

if i could suggest anything to everyone, i'd encourage only telling the story (less exposition), clarify your thematic message, and please check punctuation.

Ahh, I'm sorry to hear about your nerve damage. You didn't ask for suggestions, but have you tried dictation? I had one series I fully dictated. I found Dragon Anywhere, while expensive, was actually quite good for that. Doesn't speed up the other bits though.

I stopped publishing at that speed in 2020 because of health reasons, but I still write a couple books a year and many short stories, articles, and reviews. If I refocused entirely on writing genre series, I could probably warm back up to that rate.

fwiw I don't talk about how fast I write anymore bc I only get negative reactions. I'm just sharing this anecdata because quick publishing alone is not a sign of AI.

A novel-length book a day? Yes, AI.
A novel-length book a week? AI or ghosts.
A novel-length book a month? Sincerely doable.

I spent a few years publishing 6-10 books a year. It’s not as hard as it sounds if you’re writing in a series (episodic, don’t need fresh worldbuilding every time) and if you deny yourself other hobbies.

My relaxed non-depression hole writing rate is 2-3 books a year.

Authors, in the interest of helping readers spot gen ai 'authored' books, how many novels do you publish a year?

I publish one 80-100k+ word (epic fantasy) novel, and I can only do that because I drafted 8 novels before I started publishing any. 📚💙

I’ve been shamed a lot for being a fast writer, but I’d happily put 95% of my books up as proof of quality. The other 5% aren’t BAD but like…nobody bats 100 lol

Focus, good habits, and a lifelong novel writing habit can take you far.

I am not exactly sure how to keep my lips moisturized while this thing heals

Also I should have chosen a barbell with smaller balls (it has to be overlong to accommodate swelling)

Reading lit mag submissions that come from other countries, from authors who are likely not writing in their first language, is just amazing to me. Writers are amazing.

i love when i spend hours straight trying to design a cover or something, and come up with absolutely nothing that i like

it's not that it's unpleasant work, but it's the biggest blueball at the end to have no result and no more ideas
