RF are pro MW, but we agree it's 2nd order to benefits in tackling poverty. Big fight with Osborne over that re tax credit cuts in 2015.

One example: a 2-earner 3-kid family on MW wld have been *worse* off in 2024 than 2014 despite real earnings up 27% www.resolutionfoundation.org/publications...

I will be sending this email a lot this year. Feel free to tell me it's problematic, but I've had it with students who don't show up and expect me to be in their corner.
I’m sorry that I cannot provide my recommendation. This is not due to your module grade, but the fact that we had very limited personal interaction. As you know, students now make extensive use of AI tools, which can make it difficult to assess the extent to which written work reflects their own independent reasoning. Meeting regularly and discussing ideas in depth is usually the only reliable way for me to understand a student’s qualities and potential. For these reasons, I generally reserve my references for students with whom I have had repeated and sustained engagement over time, as this is the only basis on which I can provide a well-rounded and meaningful assessment. My door is always open for office hours and I encourage all students to come but few make use of it. In your case, I simply do not have enough direct insight into your work to write a reference that would be fair or helpful to you. I wish you all the very best with your applications.
