Deep Throat revisited...

Live performance of "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield in 1967. The song was written in 1966 in response to the Sunset Strip curfew riots in Los Angeles. It became an anthem for generational conflict, civil unrest, and later anti-war movements.

"The lyrics are still so relevant."

Kristi Noem's video at airports blaming Democrats for the shutdown doesn't just violate the Hatch Act.

Have to wonder, with federal employees working without a paycheck, who used our tax dollars to pay for the ad?

It feels like we are being run, not by a single president, but by little factions inside the Whitehouse making independent decisions that fulfill their own agendas.

This was a decision by one faction, that wasn’t supported by others- and Trump has no idea what is going on around him.

Hey @jaketapper.bsky.social, I'm no expert on cognitive illnesses, but it feels a bit detached from reality for a sitting POTUS to forget that he was in power during an attack on the U.S. Capitol, doesn't it? Do you know anyone in journalism with experience covering dementia-like symptoms?

Awful op-ed but some very astute comments from the NYT readers.
Why isn’t Trump open to making deals on domestic policies with Democrats? I can think of a few reasons: (1) the GOP has demonized democrats so thoroughly over the past 20 or so years that to make a deal with democrats is to literally make a deal with the devil for many in Trump’s base; (2) Stephen Miller seems to control what domestic information Trump sees (he seems to only absorb information via television) and thus Miller pulls the strings on many domestic actions like ICE and sending troops to Portland (e.g., Trump being surprised when Oregon’s governor informed him that no, in fact, Portland is not on fire); and (3) GOP house and senate members have voluntarily rendered themselves utterly ineffective and so no pressure is put on Trump from anyone, anywhere to make a deal across the aisle. In other words, the broadly accepted goal of the GOP now is to punish Democrats. And Trump’s personal goal is for his family to make as much money as possible while President. I don’t think it’s any more complicated than that.

On top of the endless performative public lying (bsky.app/profile/donm...), this is more of the endlessly offensive/inane “government jobs are not real jobs, except when they’re cops & soldiers” nonsense that every right-wing politician from Ronald Reagan to Scott Walker has been selling for years.
