It’s clear that the primary interest of the US in “peace negotiations” is to create opportunities for Trump, Witkoff, their family members, business partners and cronies to make billions from business deals with Russia, and Ukraine is just the annoying nuisance in the way.

Can’t repost this enough.

This is of course what they are doing. Probably trying to decide what the minimum degree of war is needed to get the Alien Insurrection Act through the courts, and hoping Venezuela acts first.

Trump doesn’t know what is going on.
Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

Ahhh,
This makes even more sense than the oil scenario. This seems highly accurate .

Marco Rubio knew the truth 9 years ago, but he sold his soul for power. Yet he was correct: He will one day have to explain his support for Trump, and this is not going to end well.

"Robs" is exactly the right verb.
The president is mentally unwell and just says things. He is going to arrest Biden for perjury! He is going to invade Nigeria! He is going to abolish income tax!

The press just ignores this because it isn't serious. But it robs the public of a chance to see how broken everything is.
This seems like the kind of declaration by a U.S. president that should be mentioned *somewhere* on the front page of CNN or the NY Times, but the fact that it isn't (as of right now) tells us so much both about how this president is covered and the credibility of the U.S. government.

Demolishing the East Wing of the White House before finalizing plans for what will be built above its ruins is a near-perfect metaphor for Trump's approach to economic policy. The only difference is the wrecking crew doesn’t claim the rubble is evidence of unprecedented growth.

Donald Trump is OK with major drug trafficking by fascists. This is necessary background to his contention he is killing Venezuelans because they are “drug traffickers.”

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."
