"Some experts disagree" - the Washington Post and the New York Times describing 99.9 percent of experts.

I love the artwork. Obvs.

Hard to find a more obvious example of the journalism adage “If someone says it’s raining outside and someone else says it isn’t, your job is not to quote them both, your job is to go outside.”

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

I think you should have to get a license to be online now.

That's an excellent question. "Kid" as a nickname went out of fashion a very long time ago.

I’m taking that as “I can’t remember but I drove myself blind in a blocking frenzy and thought I’d better put something”

It’s hilarious how he’s insisting on sticking with it. It’s like if still I called myself Rubick’s Cube boy because it’s a name I had in the 80s.
(For reference I didn’t)

I was a big fan of Peter Cook and in my 20s when he died I remember thinking “Well he had a good innings” No he fucking didn’t! What the hell are you talking about , 25 year old me?

Realised I'm the same age as Kid Rock. I'm away for a walk.

I did this a while ago but decided not to worry about it when I saw I was on a block list for being a "Trump lover" Oh no. Someone incapable of doing the most basic research doesn't like me.

Recently I saw something that was clearly AI on Instagram and it was a good 30 comments down when someone said "You know this is fake don't you?" It's like commenting on it is more important than whether it's real or not. It's entirely about engagement. Only losers care about facts. It's scary.

Of course they could have donated the money anonymously. But that's not the point, is it.

The equivalent of a mother in a gangster movie. "I DON'T WANT YOUR BLOOD MONEY."
swansonian.bsky.social
How much people want to believe it is just a big a problem as the AI itself.

"even if it's AI, it's at least true" hard to overstate the damage this stuff is doing to people's brains. we're gonna be cleaning the slop out of archives for decades

something quite brain-melting about the hard right's position apparently now being "we hate all Muslims and distrust Muslim states, aside from that one Muslim place that still has slavery because that sounds fun"

I've started dipping my toe in selling photography prints. Mostly taken from wet buses. Only four just now. Have a look. marswasrubbish.etsy.com/uk/listing/4...
My photo "Tacos" shows some neon signs for Taco Bell through a wet window on the top deck of a Glasgow bus.

Doing some admin on my Etsy page and Etsy have kindly pointed out that this photo of the National Theatre taken at night might be too dark. marswasrubbish.etsy.com/uk/listing/1...
The concrete cube of the National Theatre in London. It is late evening and the building is bright red. No doubt because it was taken in December and they thought it would look more christmasy

Footnote: By emergency money I mean I like to have a hundred quid or so set aside just in case. For instance if a friend breaks a limb or something and I need to rush to their side and be sarcastic by her hospital bed.

I was beginning to think I might be one of those symptomless people but then I got it last year and it was so horrible I spent all my emergency money on it. Thinking of doing it again. It's cheap compared to American medical costs but taking the piss expensive for Britain.

It’s dispiriting that this is what getting a COVID vaccination now looks like to this chronic asthmatic.

It’s mad to think Abigail’s Party got 18 million viewers on BBC2. I was 5 at the time so obviously didn’t watch it then but I grew up under the impression it was a little cult thing only known to tv nerds. But 18 million is more than most football finals.

Somewhere in the comments someone will be screaming “This is a SNL sketch from 17 years ago. You’ve all lost your minds!” but this will be ignored.
swansonian.bsky.social
A thing I’ve noticed online recently is a huge increase in accounts on Reddit and Instagram convincing people comedy sketches are real. I assume it’s younger people or people not from the country the sketch was made in but if it’s played with a straight enough face it’s true.
swansonian.bsky.social
My hangups about stand-up means I’m almost definitely going to see it though. Also, because it’s Will Arnett it kind of looks like they watched Bo’Jack Horseman and thought let’s do a live action version of the straight bits.

Oddly enough I turned over from Alien, another film I have to watch if it’s on. I just can’t decide between monsters and comedy. #mystruggle
