I'll give you some numbers.

Amen is 1st in Defensive-EPM for 2024-25 (among qualifying players):

Amen: +2.9

Draymond: +2.5

Daniels, J-Dub, Zubac +2.3

Btw, an absolute treat of a read.

this is the shit i come to the ringer for
Tyler Parker on Amen: "Could give you some numbers, but that’s not what this is about. This is about spellbinding, about rousing sparks. About feeling like you accidentally wandered into the future. He makes the kinds of plays that reward multiple viewings. You want to go back and look again, revel in the absurdity of what just happened, make sure your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Where did he start the play from? How did he make up all that ground? Look how high he got. Look how far out he was when he took off. Jesus, look at that. Thompson moves like he’s being propelled by a higher purpose, like there’s a voice inside his head and all it screams is charge. Soars on the wings of F/A-18 Hornets. He’s a camera shaker, a wonder machine. Hard to focus on anything but the anthropomorphized Valkyrie tearing up the court. It would be easy for Thompson to ease off the gas sometimes, the physical tools so bonkers they could make up for him losing interest every now and again. It’s to his credit that the intensity never wavers. The defense is staggering. Your man is Gibraltar on skates out there. He was the most fun player to watch in the league this season. When he’s on the court, the jump program is loaded. Young Morpheus bounce. He should do the dunk contest in mirrored pince-nez and a leather trench. Let him free your mind."

Also, if you look at the playoff probabilities page that simulates the rest of the season using EPM and likely return dates of injured players, you'll see the wolves are predicted to finish 7th in the west at this point at about 44 wins. dunksandthrees.com/playoff-prob...
taylorsnarr.bsky.social
One reason is that Team EPM accounts for injuries so players like Luka, Kyrie, and Ja being out bumps Mavs, Griz lower than they otherwise would (and thus Wolves are higher). It's also a little bit the predictive nature of EPM that hasn't given up on the talent that exists on the team.

Man, Franz doesn't get nearly enough love for his defense
taylorsnarr.bsky.social
Yeah exactly. His turnover rate is almost half of what it typically is and what it will likely be with more sample.
taylorsnarr.bsky.social
Defense is a bit tough so early. But he consistently ranks pretty high in opponent turnovers when he is the closest defender, and he's only improved this season.
taylorsnarr.bsky.social
Me neither. Defense driving it. Low turnovers helps on O.
