It truly wonderful movie, worth a truly terrible remake… Memorably, Angela Lansbury was only two years older than Laurence Harvey, who played her son…

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

The museums are being shutdown.
Are we great yet?
Everyone’s being fired.
Are we great yet?
Food is rotting in our fields.
Are we great yet?
The market’s crashing greatly.
Diseases are now running rampant.
At what point aren’t we great?
Our military’s in line at food banks.
So super great.

there’s a short entry in Denktagebuch that reads “Amor mundi — warum ist es so schwer, die Welt zu lieben?” But while there are various references to the longer quote, it is rarely in quotation marks, and never with a cited source

It has been such a great honour to be one of Krasznahorkai's interpreters into English (since 2008), along with George Szirtes and John Batki. I also have to mention the visionary New Directions and my beyond stellar editor Declan Spring 🧡

A truly extraordinary writer. I was on the jury for the Independent Foreign Fiction prize the year Sátántangó was published in English, and was convinced it would win… sadly, I could not even persuade my fellow jury members to put it on the shortlist.

I finally got to 'Rosy and John' on my list, and it was great. I wasn't sure, considering the size (not a good way to pre-judge a reading experience!), that it'd be an interesting addition to the series but it certainly is. I'm putting together a bitesize episode on it. Thanks for the suggestion.

The mention of his name makes me picture Julie Andrews in “the lonely passion of Judith Hearn“… Now that would’ve been wild miscasting

On the subject of Julie Andrews’ films no one should see, please also add “Torn Curtain“. Do not be duped by the fact that Paul Newman also stars, or that Alfred Hitchcock direct. It is a turkey

The videos* coming out of the peaceful protests in solidarity with Palestinians, in London, are hair-raising. Ordinary Brits, protesting genocide, being arrested for terrorism offences. This is the behaviour of a fascist states. The bravery of these ppl in standing for what they believe in*
