“I don’t want to be free!!!” — Sherman

Sherman put THEM in a situation.

It’s 37 degrees in Cambridge right now. Thrilling!!!

My theory is that Sherman was like, “those holes are cool and cozy.” Or maybe he’s just chaos agent.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this TikTok since yesterday. Sherman was stressing those ladies out.

my autistic kid has a totally different year at school depending on who his teacher is. accommodation is so important for autism. my autistic kid is brilliant and funny and kind, and I wouldn't give him a "cure" if they found one. he just needs help navigating our neurotypically-normative world

I think…people’s obsession with “a cause”…is precisely because autism’s genetic randomness is hard to stratify by social class……………..

THERE. ARE. NO. 'CAUSES'. OF. AUTISM.

(other than being born as a member of Homo sapiens, which is a huge risk factor for turning out to be Autistic).

There is so little support for disability in our medical system. Raising a kid with high needs means a huge amount of time and money and frustration, and everyone knows that the US medical system will not help and will not change. So people look for someone to blame.

Whew, this was really helpful. And makes so much sense.

I’m not autistic, just a parent to an autistic kid w/ fairly significant support needs, but I personally find it very frustrating to see so many people fixated on preventing, reducing, or “curing” autism and neurodiversity instead of talking about inclusion + getting folks whatever support they need

We're learning so much more about the experiences of nonverbal autistic people now, too, thanks to increasing awareness and assistive technology, and what really stood out to me was how much their intelligence, experiences, and suffering have been unheard and dismissed in favor of the parents' POV.
