Instead of shrieking about the death of fiction, I am begging columnists to look real hard about the actual aims of publishing, because to my eye, the Big Four are not actually interested in publishing books, but rather maintaining capital holdings.

“it’s bad not to degrade the work of people who actually know things and produce that knowledge for others” bzzt. wrong
uh oh, things are happening dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/...

The UK did have one standout product that was considered globally valuable- universities- and unilaterally decided to stop providing the product because it was more important to be xenophobic than successful
The UK’s economic problems are quite deep-rooted. The best summary I can offer is “we don’t make enough valuable, productive stuff and sell it to the world any more”.
Things like planning and energy no doubt play a role in that - but I don’t think they’re enough to fix it on their own
Can’t believe I had to discover Labubu and Lebeebee in the same month 🫩 #murderbot #labubu

It's almost like it's the diff between a generation who got calls mostly from friends and one that gets calls mostly from scammera
I have learned that Gen Z expects the person calling to say "hello" first, instead of the person answering; upending a century of phone norms. You know what? fine, I say. Phone calls aren't what they used to be anyway www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-phone-...
Gen Z doesn't say 'hello' when answering the phone. I'm concerned.
Gen Z is making up its own etiquette rules when it comes to answering the phone. Some of them aren't saying "hello." They want you to first.

I use this image when I teach about the consequences of biodiversity loss:
Appalam (papad). People love sitting next to me at wedding buffets cause I am actively looking to get rid of my appalam. I don't mind fryums or old fashioned Indian chip house spicy potato chips with sambar and rice though! It's just those damn appalams.

genuinely hilarious how the literal most populous country in the world gets a green shade and "uncertain" because the white race scientists never bothered to figure out anything about it
Before anyone to the left of center tries to comment, you are part of the problem if you have ever used the term "AAPI" because in your attempt to be inclusive you recreated the classification "mongoloid" from first principles
Ah yes, the King of Good Times lmao
I was going to say Kingfisher beer is a crime and then I remembered the owner and CEO is hiding in the UK as we speak to avoid extradition to India to face trial for financial crimes
Beer too. Indian beer is the worst in the world. It isn't close. Kingfisher would literally be banned in 145 countries
Bengaluru actually has a bunch of craft beer places. We try and visit once of them when we go there

We should probably be clear eyed about the fact that Microsoft purchased a huge roster of some of the world's best game development studios only to turn around and use them all as kindling for its ill-begotten AI boondoggle
I've started an art journal so I can scribble without having to worry about it being good or clever and it's such fun. Even if I don't paint today, I get to Play With The Colours #artsky
Yes same. She's so measured and wise even when she's suffering PTSD and stuff in later books. Her trust in SecUnit is so precious to it. Sigh
Ooh I'd actually love that, I have season 1 (10 episodes, not sure if that's the whole thing?) but need the rest!
They're just such an old married couple in the book, I just kind of assumed that was intentional once I noticed (on the millionth reread). I didn't know I wasn't alone in this because I never sought out the fandom online! I also cried at S2 and screamed noo don't do it at the TV
Aaaahhh I'm so excited for this 😂😭
I grew up lurking in the HP fandom on LiveJournal and such, I haven't ventured further until GO season 2 forced me to seek solace in the GO fandom, so that's all the experience I have! I'm AuDHD too, the obsessive hyperfixations are real. You should absolutely try publishing fic if you want to! <3
Ohhh...meanwhile le me just sitting here waiting approx 17 years for Aziracrow to become canon 😱😂 The ending of season 2 made me really squirmy with HOW the stuff happened though (very uncomfortable) so I have been reading fandom versions of season 3 and AUs to recover 🥲
Yesss I will! And aaah Taika Waititi as Blackbeard? 😄 Shriek...I was unaware of this and I am trying v hard not to Google images
