Bei einer Neonazidemo in #Alzey kam es gestern zum Eklat. Ein junger Kamerad wollte beim Abspielen aller drei Strophen der Nationalhymne seine Vermummung nicht ablegen. Diese unpatriotische Respektlosigkeit gefiel den Älteren Neonazis so gar nicht.

Bin immer noch fassungslos, dass das Ordnungsamt Alzey denen gestattet hat, an der Gedenkstätte der Alten Syngaoge vorbeizumarschieren!

We feel it's time to clarify our position regarding our participation in this year’s Metal Threat Festival, especially in light of recent discourse. Here are the facts:
• This was our third time performing at the festival. Previous editions had no association with politically charged bands and nothing in our past experiences suggested this year would be any different.
• Beyond the festival itself, Metal Threat organized a 14-day North American tour for us. Tours of this nature require extensive planning and coordination over several months, involving local promoters, venue staff, crew, merchandise suppliers and others who invest significant time and resources.
• Importantly, Metal Threat is also our official sponsor for U.S. work visas, which makes them our legal employer during our stay. This means our ability to act independently is limited by U.S. immigration law and the terms of our visas.
• When we agreed to play this year’s edition, we had no knowledge of the controversial last-minute additions to the lineup. By the time those bands were announced, backing out would have led to serious consequences — not only for us but for everyone involved in the tour. These could have included the cancellation of our visas and a potential 10-year ban from reapplying for entry into the U.S.
• Even if we had withdrawn, we recognize that some would still accuse us of acting too late or doing so purely for damage control. In other words, our reputation was at risk regardless of the path we chose.
• Given these circumstances — and the fact that our performance took place on Sunday, a day untarnished by sketchy bands — we made the difficult decision to proceed. Choosing to fulfill our commitments was not an endorsement of other bands’ ideologies.
Let us be clear: we did not appreciate being on the same bill as a handful of NS white power acts. However, when contracts are signed and obligations set in motion, choices become limited.

Aus aktuellem Anlass hier ein paar Anmerkungen zu akademischen Boykotten gegenüber israelischen Hochschulen aus Sicht einer ehemaligen
ÖH Vorsitzenden:
1. Hochschulen sind ein Ort des Diskurses und der gesellschaftskritischen Auseinandersetzung. Dass man ausgerechnet von Hochschulen als Ort der wissenschaftlichen Auseinandersetzung mit Gesellschaft verlangt Kooperationen zwischen Hochschulen einzustellen, finde ich grundfalsch und problematisch.
Gerade die Hebrew University steht für die diverse israelische Gesellschaft und für kritischen Diskurs. An dieser Uni studieren sowohl Israelis als auch Palästinenser innen. Die Forderung sollte daher MEHR statt weniger Diskurs sein.

2. Nur damit wir das mal klar festgehalten haben: Die Protestierenden fordern, dass die größte österreichische Universität die Kooperation mit einer Institution, die jüdisch geprägt ist und jüdische Studierende und Lehrende hat, auflöst. Das ist laut der IHRA Definition von Antisemitismus nichts anderes als blanker Antisemitismus, der angesichts der Vergangenheit der österreichischen Universitäten an dunkle Zeiten erinnert. Es widert mich an.
Genau deshalb haben sich vor circa 10 Jahren die Hochschüler innenschaften der
ÖH Bundesvertretung & Uni Wien in ihren Gremien ganz klar gegen BDS gestellt. Ich fasse es nicht, was wir gerade für einen unglaublichen Rückschritt im Diskurs erleben.

3. Ich verstehe, dass man angesichts der katastrophalen menschenfeindlichen Lage in Gaza verzweifelt. Aber Intifada (der Begriff ist im Nahostkonflikt unweigerlich mit Gewalthandlungem an Juden und Jüdinnen verknüpft) Rufe einen Tag nach dem 2 jährigen Gedenken an den 7. Oktober haben rein gar nichts mit legitimer Kritik zu tun und dieser Boykott Wahnsinn ändert nichts an dem Leid in Gaza - im Gegenteil. Boykotte dieser Art führen dazu, dass Räume der transkulturellen Verständigung noch weniger werden. Wir brauchen für Frieden Aber MEHR und nicht weniger Kooperation und kritischen akademischen Diskurs! Und wir brauchen Hochschulen, in denen sich sowohl jüdische als auch muslimische Studierende sicher fühlen und keine Angst vor Diskriminierung und Ausgrenzung haben müssen.
