Sir. - Much of the commentary on
the presidential election has focused
on trving to interpret the meaning be-
hind spoiled votes, and what they sug-
gest about the gap between parts of
the electorate and our political class.
Catherine Connolly's victory, how-
ever, points to an overlooked gap-the
one between voters and much of the
prevailing media consensus. More
than 900,000 people - the largest
number ever to support a presidential
candidate - voted for her despite
weeks of coverage often portraying
her views on neutrality, Nato, Pales-
tine, and prisoner rehabilitation as na-
ive. riskv or dangerous

Taken together. these results sug-
gest a public that feels misread from
the political and media spheres. Un-
less those gaps are honestly examined
as a whole, politicians and iournalists
may risk continuing to speak to each

RTE finally had a barrister on this morning who confirmed that barristers are 1) required to take clients in their area of expertise and 2) have a duty of confidentiality and shouldn't talk about their own cases.

FG is undermining the rule of law with their attacks.

You do *not* resolve conflicts, and the NI conflict wasn't resolved, by outside powers dictating who can and who can't speak for one party.
