The press has been incredibly friendly to our military my entire adult life. For instance Iraq & Afghanistan were debacles that got a decades worth of credulous coverage. They’ll basically print whatever the Pentagon tells them—just don’t ask them to sign something that makes it official, dumbasses

You have to. iTunes is in shambles. Spotify is a truly evil company but the non-evil Bandcamp doesn’t have enough music to make it your sole music platform

The hostage release is a reminder of how bad the Dems are at politics. Not only did Biden refuse to force this deal on Netanyahu & thereby help Harris win, but most people aren’t even aware that Biden got way more Israeli hostages (over 100) released with his 2023 ceasefire than Trump did with his.

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.

Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

People bemoan online misinformation and yeah it’s bad but legacy news has been doing this absurd sort of routine since before social media. “Did Iraq do 9/11? Depends on the narrator?” It’s why so many gravitated to online political news in the first place

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

Yesterday, at Walter Reed, Trump was vaccinated against Covid and the flu, early and quietly.

But his movement turned public health into a culture war, leaving women, the poor, and the misled unprotected.

Here’s the report.👇

True but it’s not really the wrong bet if you know you can’t lose. The guys at the top of these companies only care about enriching themselves and they know they’ll be bailed out when it all falls apart. The carnage to the rest of the economy does not matter one bit to them.

I imagine people used to admire and envy JP Morgan & Rockefeller. They might have been cutthroat but they built libraries and gave to charities and enjoyed their wealth. This generations titans of industry have largely driven themselves mad. Nobody envies or admires Mr. Antichrist here.

Inside billionaire Peter Thiel’s private lectures: Warnings of ‘the Antichrist’ and U.S. destruction
In leaked recordings of private lectures by tech billionaire Peter Thiel he argued that “the Antichrist” is likely to take the form of a critic of technology.

Somewhat problematic that everything our president thinks is happening in this country is completely made up

Trump: "AI is based on information. I hope they're right about information. I don't know. You've gotta make a lot of money to-- there's gotta be a lot of information out there, but that seems to be pretty hot. We're leading the world on information on AI."

During a military-style raid on a building in Chicago’s South Shore, one resident heard a knock on his door.

It wasn’t the feds —  it was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for help.

He let them hide in his unit for the next 3 days.

I find it bleak that ChatGPT now has more users than Wikipedia. Many people would rather be spoon-fed information by a machine than read and research for themselves. Tech isn't just making us dumber. Worse than that: it's killing curiosity itself and the desire to learn.

EPA officials directed scientists to assess whether the government could develop methods for detecting abortion pills in wastewater — a practice sought by the anti-abortion movement. The request appears to have originated from a letter sent from GOP members to Lee Zeldin, the EPA administrator.

Scientists at the Environmental Protection Agency found that they could develop methods to identify traces of the medication if necessary — a practice long sought by the anti-abortion movement.
