This. Finding and keeping joy in your life isn’t just good for your mental health, it’s radical as fuck when your joy is exactly what is trying to be snuffed out.
Y'all know I'm going to fight. I'm going to build with communities of resistance and refusal. You'll hear from me about that, trust. But today I want to share another hot tip for survival in dark times: plan for joy. 1/x

Today in Cincinnati, Police shut down a highway overpass and held a line on each side to allow Hate Club to wave swastika flags and nazi banners unchallenged. They then protected them as they loaded back into their box truck, while physically pushing back a crowd of people trying to confront them.

Hell yeah. Channel your inner Duolingo Owl
Whoa. The Duolingo community on Reddit is protesting Duo’s terrible customer service and calling them out for using the volunteer mods as free labour. www.reddit.com/r/duolingo/s...

to their credit, This American Life reported this well before the inauguration. They had an episode in which an expert was like "they'll start with people who are following the rules because they're easiest to find, which will allow them to brag about a high number of deportations quickly"
The administration is not targeting immigrants with violent records. They're targeting the immigrants who are easiest to get: those who show to court and follow the rules. It's a great way to ensure that undocumented people stop coming to court.

They're also already ensnaring U.S. citizens.
Trump immigration raids snag U.S. citizens, including Native Americans, raising racial profiling fears
A U.S. veteran and Navajo residents have been asked for identification. Critics are complaining of racial profiling as raids and deportations increase.

One republican senator - the absolute dumbest one, in fact! - held up 400 military promotions for a year. On his own, from the Senate minority.
when democrats vote for cloture 97-0 for these whackjob nominees and then tell you "its complicated" when you complain about them aiding and abetting trump, be very aware: they are lying. none of this is complicated at all. all they have to do is oppose.

Happening NOW - We're at a packed Ohio Power Siting Board public hearing today on the Eastern Cottontail Solar Project. Overwhelming community turnout with a record-breaking number of public comments - 80% expressing support for the project.
Apple, on the other hand, is actually up. Likely because of all the major tech companies they have been the most skeptical of AI and took pains to silo their AI offerings from the rest of their iOS. They hedged their bets and so don’t have anywhere near as much to lose from the deflation of AI hype
Watching the fallout of the DeepSeek news and tech is having a really bad time
We are a laughingstock of a country
Let me get this straight. Petro calls for dignified transit. Trump threatens tariffs. Petro smacks Trump in a post threatening his own higher tariffs. And Trump agrees to what Petro asked for. And yet NYT is calling this *Petro* backing down?

It’s good in that AI sucks, but I’m also very worried this is gonna trigger another global recession or even depression, which will fuck everyone

Also: because deepseek's r1 model is open source it is also open with how its chain of thought reasoning works, something that OpenAI has been avoiding so people can't copy their process and thus their model. Sadly that didn't need to happen! Uh oh!

One important note: this is not about deepseek making a "better" model. They have created a much much cheaper to run model that performs about as well as OpenAI's o1 model. OpenAI may have to drop pricing to compete on a more expensive to run model. Race to the bottom baby!
Sure looks like that AI bubble might be bursting today

A recap of today's crisis:

- Colombia: Deportations are fine, but don't use military planes.
- Trump: F*** YOU. 50% tariffs, visa bans, and sanctions.
- Colombia: If you're going to be that way, screw you too, 50% tariffs back at you, we're breaking up, and we'll see other people *coughChinacough*.
This was the funniest and best thing to happen this weekend. You love to see it
