thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

"well what are the Democrats supposed to do" I don't know! They're supposed to know! I'm not the one who sought and obtained a political position that would require me to know what to do when the ruling party attempts to install the President as a dictator!

When I started getting them in 2007 the base model non WiFi one was like 40 bucks. Sometimes I’d literally just buy another one bc it was cheaper than the toner.

the only thing I was ever even SLIGHTLY tempted to do is to make inspo imagery of stuff from my book... but when I saw other authors doing it, theirs all looked shitty and cringe. I'm not gonna cross the fucking picket line for something that looks like shit!

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

fun tip: if you come to New Orleans and go on one of those alligator tours, and the alligators don't feel like coming out that day, your tour guide will show you 30-50 feral hogs in the swamp instead. Just like rooting around in the cypress knees and chilling

here is the current tactical map of where feral swine populations have consolidated

the major worry is if the Canadian superhogs end up making their way down south and breeding with the American hogs

if you pick up this call it's just going to be the bottom of my chin and my ceiling as I yell, "WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK! STOP!"

I swear apps have got to stop putting an option to CALL PEOPLE right where your finger usually hits to scroll (YES YOU INSTAGRAM). I never know how to make it stop so I just yell and panic and throw the phone in a closet. Sorry if you're a stranger I've done this to

In video games, you will often find a fully roasted chicken abandoned on the ground, and eating it extremely quickly makes you feel better. What's less known is that this is also true in real life
