Never forget this: The forces rigging our economy, undermining our democracy, polluting our planet, and stoking hatred are counting on you to give up. Cynicism is how they win. Stay clear-eyed and ready for the fight ahead.

Hey, you idiotic propagandists at the New York Post:

God Bless America isn't the national anthem. It's a SHOW TUNE written by Irving Berlin.

The great actress Diane Keaton has left us at the age of 79. Too soon to say good-bye to the woman who made us smile at the quirky Annie Hall, and who broke our hearts in Reds. Your charm and talent will be sorely missed.

In Irish tradition, Puck Fair crowned a wild goat king. The captured animal presided over days of revelry before being released to the hills. A festival both pagan and pastoral, half sacred, half satire. #FolkyFriday

Loy Krathong is the Thai lantern festival, taking place at the end of their lunar calendar and often in November. Lanterns are lit in biodegradable (often bread or flowers) boats and sent to see, meant to represent the Buddhist concept of letting go. #FolkyFriday
A woman in pink-purple-red Thai garb with a crown of flowers in her hair sending out boats of flowers to the water while wooden candles float around her in a relatively shallow area; the wooden candles do not appear to move, and are likely just for illumination. Hanging modern lights can be seen in the trees behind her.

The Lammas and Harvest Fairs were once the social heart of the countryside. Pipers played, apples were pressed, and livestock changed hands. Beneath the trade was gratitude; a farewell to summer’s plenty. #FolkyFriday

In #JapaneseFolklore there is a #yokai known as azuki baba (bean hag). She often appears on rainy autumn nights, glowing white through the mist, singing hoarsely as she shakes and washes beans by the river. She is a more sinister variant of azuki arai who despite singing about...

October folklore includes traditions surrounding the thinning of the veil between the worlds during Halloween and the Celtic festival of Samhain, the importance of the Hunter's Moon, and the symbolism of harvest. Hares are associated with the moon and liminality.

Even today, echoes of the fairs remain. Autumn craft markets, cider festivals, and county fairs still carry the hum of barter and the smell of hay. All remnants of a time when the year turned in music and trade. #FolkyFriday

Michaelmas daisies bloomed as coins changed hands. Folklore said to place one in your hat for luck when buying stock. Rural superstition twined through trade like ivy on a fence post. #FolkyFriday
