My digital sculpture of the Water-Moon Avalokitesvara is complete!
A serene figure from Buddhist tradition, Avalokitesvara - also known as Guanyin in China and Kannon in Japan - embodies compassion itself.

That’s a really good analogy! It does feel like a classroom with actual people, and less noise we have to shout over :)
I'm really struggling in other places... I couldn't help venting, but imagining these platforms as actual tangible spaces (classrooms, avenues, etc) helps. Thank you :D

Cara and ArtStation are optimized for art, but I still feel like I have to work hard to truly 'belong' there.
I hope building my own website will help me reclaim ownership of my work🐢🎨

I purchased my own domain so I wouldn't have to rely on views from social media. I guess what they say about social media being a place to socialize, not for art... is true.

Ravens will only pose for photos when they’re otherwise occupied.

Use these for reference if you like. They’re everyone’s now - for any purpose. No attribution required.
Mem’ry of Wotan,

Where is Thought?
GET OUT THE TRASH

Err. Yeah. This is what they do lol. Every trash can in town is bird proof except this one.

A raven glares at me because I’m snapping his photo as he dives for McDonald’s. Nom nom nom. Here let’s just rip this trash bag open so the wind will carry it alllllll over the parking lot. Ravens are smart enough to remember you, use tools, make a mess, and be a jerk. Yeah let’s just get in there cmon I smell fries. 🍟

Here our hero takes a deeper stab at his enemy, plastic. Well, it’s kind of everyone’s enemy isn’t it? The birds knew all along. 🐦‍⬛ Their feathers are deep glossy black which is almost blue. They’re really quite pretty in a mysterious bird sort of way. I mean, they’re everywhere so ya know - they look much cooler in trees but good luck getting close - they always fly away.

Thanks! I might try to sculpt another person to see if I could create something at the same level😀

Here’s the final render of my head sculpt of South Indian actor Arjun Sarja, created as part of the 10-week course at CGMA.
I'll put a link to the full-screen render, my course journey, and all the making-of details in the thread below👇

That's really cool, I imagine it feels even more like sculpting when you're using electric shavers 😎

It's great when you understand something you didn't before, just by looking at it in a new way😀

I think I already thought about this when I was into sewing tiny clothes for BJDs, but I don't think I thought about that for over a minute back then.
torigoyamon.bsky.social
Suddenly realizing that hairstyling and fashion design both require 3D thinking... Giving a haircut is actually sculpting with scissors, and sewing clothes is creating 3D objects from 2D surfaces (UV unwrapping!).
Which is incredibly cool when you think about it...
torigoyamon.bsky.social
Ah yes, that happens alot too... they start adding features nobody asked for, instead of improving features that actually suck. Then they suddenly go "Ta-da!! We only provide subscription plans now! Pay forever! You own nothing!" Looking at you, Maxon.

If the word enshittified ever makes it into the Oxford Dictionary (maybe it already has?), Ad*be and T*itter will definitely be on the top list of examples.
torigoyamon.bsky.social
I've been thinking alot about products and servics all having a natural lifespan... and they tend to get “enshittified” when pushed beyond it (Often sold to shoddy companies).
But things enshittify way too fast these days...

APOTHEOSIS OF WAR (1992)
Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 20” x 19”

People often ask me, “Where do you get your ideas?”

I always have so many that I don’t think I’ll live long enough to paint them all...and if I ever experience a shortage, I just have to pick up the morning paper. 1/3
A white on black abstract rendering of the culmination of war. It stands with arms flung out as if declaring "look what I have wrought!" Horns sit upon its helm pointing up and outward in a slight arc. Eye slits sit high with a double opening between jagged cheek plates. The effect elongates the helm, an inhuman distortion that looks more devil than man. The collar and pauldrons are wide, overwrought and wickedly spiked. Open mouths scream from the underside, echoes of suffering or cries of bloodlust. The figure is skeletal with one bony foot exposed beneath long flowing tattered robes loosely wound with barbed wire. Lines across the fabric of its chest suggest ribs as if there's no other substance beneath but bone. The hands, however, are tense, anguished flesh with long curving nails as if saying the delicate instruments of war are all too human. Projecting like bladed weapons from each sleeve, the sleek heads of a dragon and a long-beaked demonic bird extend in a mockery of open arm

Oh wow, thanks for the info!
With social media declining, I hope more people will start getting back to building sites like this, myself included.

More baskets to put eggs into, the better!

Niiice. I really miss personal websites like this... I especially liked surfing through the list of websites they find cool.
Where do people build these kinds of websites these days?

WIP of the final week assignment for the Facial Sculpting course.
I'd say Arjun's likeness is about 90% in grayscale with polypaint and texture maps turned off.
I will be posting the final renders soon!

Day 5 for #repostober

I don’t repost this much coz it’s hard to see unless it’s a single image.

But I still like it coz it’s a scene with a story, not just another character standing around.

Thanks! I hoping the plan would work to some level.
I might vent on Bluesky when I get stuck😂
