I like B for the bookmark, but A for the bag - sorry if that's not very helpful 🤦

Today I got down my 1986 copy of Rider, in honour of Jilly. I was far too young to be given the hardback from the library by my mother 😳 but I couldn't wait to get my own copy.
I normally keep my books pristine, no broken spine. But this one has been so well read and loved, and it shows it.
Front cover of Jilly Cooper's book Riders. The picture is of a lady's bottom, she is wearing skin tight white jodhpurs and a man's hand is cupping her right buttock. She is also holding a riding whip held loosely across the back of her legs. Picture showing the spine of Jilly Cooper's book Riders with the famous picture of a man's hand on a lady's Jodhpur clad bottom. The book spin is creased and curved showing it has been read many times, the top pages are brown with age and crinkled from much use - a bit like this reader.

Close, intelligent, in some cases near lifelong friends are starting to talk casually about the use of ChatGPT in their lives or in some cases are clearly getting paid/perks to promote its use and it’s like watching your social circle slowly, and with a big smile on their face, all join Scientology.

#WriteCBC The lounge was more like a dentist's waiting room; hard, bright surfaces, sharp angled chrome furniture, cold white light. But behind the stinging scent of bleach something else lurked, catching in her throat, recalling a memory of biting into a crisp apple, only to find the centre rotten.

Jane Goodall's work insisting, with evidence from her brilliant and tenacious fieldwork, that we were not so separate from animals, and they were much more like us than the Eurocentric theorists asserted, was so important.

Too late, Batman. Once this Tylenol floods the city's water supply, my wiki won't run out of editors ever again

Great thread, thank you.

There are plenty of books at your local libraries and bookstores to read and learn about autism that do not focus on Tylenol. Best of all, more and more books are being written and illustrated. More and are being published! 📚

😊 Here are a few:

You can’t fix autism because autistic people are not broken.

Show me a picture on your phone that has your energy. Not a selfie.

I've just added a couple of Maureen Duffy books to my wish list. I knew her name but hadn't read her - yet.

Bravo to Bernadine Evaristo for setting up the RSL Pioneer Prize for older women writers, and for naming the working-class-born playright, poet, novelist, nonfiction writer, and activist Maureen Duffy as its first recipient.

I love London so much. So much.

Did you know that London has the lowest level of ethnic violence of any city of comparable size in the world?

Multiculturalism has in fact worked here. They just don’t want it to be true because we happen to have a Muslim mayor.

Do you have a lot of annoying admin tasks or household chores you need to accomplish, but never seem to find the time for? Then may I suggest: setting aside a day to do nothing but write, you will be amazed at how many such tasks you can accomplish.

Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth

You should support and defend trans people because trans people are people

A producer told me once she has to warn young crewmembers to avoid being alone with Aykroyd. "Not because he's a creep, he's a gentleman. But if you let him strike up a conversation the next thing we know all the PAs will be huddled in his dressing room learning how humans evolved from dolphins."

I love Dan Aykroyd because he has very clearly entered the stage in his life where he is going to make sure everyone knows about his special interests and he has the profile and resources to do it in a high profile manner. You are GOING to hear about rocks, dinosaurs, vodka, and ghosts dammit.

Word of the Day is ‘snerdle’ (19th century): to stay warm and still beneath the covers for as long as humanly possible.

Government Emergency Alerts
and Domestic Abuse
On the 7 September 2025 at 3pm, the government will be testing
the emergency alert system to activate phones and tablets with a
loud alert. If you have one hidden from an abusive partner, switch
it off.
It will alert even if it's on silent or disconnected
from data and wifi.
How to opt out of emergency alerts:
!
Android
· Open the settings app
· Search 'emergency alerts'
· Select emergency alerts and from here you
can turn them off
. Tap the toggles on the right. If they are grey,
this means they are switched off.
iPhone
· Open the settings app
· Tap on notifications
. Scroll to the bottom of the page. There'll be an emergency alert section
. Tap the toggles on the right. If they are grey, this means they are
switched off

#WriteCBC She reached for it, yet as ever, her hand froze mid grasp. Over the decades how she had longed to unwrap it and feel its softness against her face, to inhale, to devour, the last scent of him. But she never did. What if all she found was the smell of despair in the old swaddling clothes?
