New figures show England’s farmers have faced the second worst harvest on record. Drought, heat and floods have hit yields hard: and it’s another reminder that climate and food security must be tackled together, not traded off. 🌾

Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.

You can be the safest, most attentive driver in the world and still pose a massive risk to other road users. That’s because cars and car dependency are inherently dangerous.

This doesn’t mean you’re a bad person if you drive, but I do think that drivers should acknowledge their role in this system.

Have you tried the neighbouring health trusts? Sometimes there are big differences in waiting times.

English English v US English: “When that ground differs, even subtly, the whole picture can shift.”

This was the last par of a story about Ghislaine Maxwell I deleted tonight:

“The president has acknowledged his pardoning power but has not committed himself to giving her one.”

Oh dear. How sad. #ReformUK find that Kent county council are so well run that they can't make cuts and will have to put council tax up by 5%. That's a surprise to no one except Farage's crowd.

Whoever you are...

If your response to hate is more hate.

If you try to sow more division in reaction to divisive actions.

If your turn your anger into a destructive force rather than try to build a better world.

Then you are as much a problem as that which you claim to stand up against.

Sadly we won't go back in while Farage is waiting in the wings. It wouldn't make political sense and Europe would be daft to have us. Keep our star safe though, please.

In shocking: "most people want to eat competitively priced, good quality fresh food and don't care where it comes from or what Nigel Farage thinks" news.

‘Polling commissioned by POLITICO shows the government’s agri-food deal agreed in principle with Brussels is popular with Remainers and Leavers alike — even when they're told it means following EU rules.

‘Nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of voters back the deal…

During my stay which was about nine days many children died of the smallpox. I once saw five corps together in the old church. Inoculation as formerly much practised in this quarter, will a few years ago when there of four dying in that fatal disorder after they had been inoculated, it was entirely laid aside and the people now choose to submit to providence rather then the "operation"

No, I cycle past rather than through. The farmers would make sure that any ramifications would be of Biblical proportions!

I was messaged to ask if I really do cycle through Sodom and Gomorrah (my profile page pic).

The answer is yes, I do.

Higher prices in my supermarket shop put me in mind of the 1970s Daily Mirror "shopping clock", which charted the effect of #inflation on a basket of groceries

A web search brought me to this marvellous DPhil dissertation by Mary Feerick of Sheffield tinyurl.com/f3kka67r inflation #priceoffood
The Daily Mirror shopping clock showing that a £5 basket of groceries has increased by £5 19 1/2p

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.
