I have! It’s so so good, I was maybe going to put it on the list later on. I think I saw that one of the prequels is on YouTube now, too?
One of my favorite movies, no joke. A movie where the monster is the good guy but still also a monster: sympathetic and tragic, while the hero and heroine make you want to spit cotton.
don’t sleep on Tourneur’s Cat People for all your spooky watchlist needs, still a total stunner:
I’m so glad!! If you look further up the list, there’s some other good ff/analog/creepy pasta stuff, especially the whole FALE DOCUMENTARY Q thing. YouTube is *rife* with found footage creepy pasta!
Today’s YouTube offering: a little classic analog found footage horror from England.

Tomorrow we’ll slip on back to the heady days of olde, with a little British TV folk horror
16. “No Through Road”

Back in 2009, a couple British teens posted this little vid to YouTube—allegedly the first YT “Analog horror” video. Totally context-free, viewers thought it was real, & it spawned all sorts of theories & imitators.

CW: dead animal btw

15.2 “No Through Road 2”

NTR was so popular that, a year or two later, the direct made a string of 3 sequels that develop the story intriguingly. TBH this second video is where the series really takes off for me, as things start to get even weirder.

Quick cultural lecture time, from Sigrid Ellis:

As we are in Spooky Season, why do so many horror movies of the 80s and early 90s feature extremely creepy homeless people?

At least I caught the KOYAANISQATSI clip the first time through season 4 so there shouldn’t be any surprises there
You’d think by now I would have them all but we just watched season 2 and I had to go download LIQUID DAYS which I don’t even LIKE and now we just got to the s.3 episode with SATYAGRAHA in it fuck
Every season STRANGER THINGS forces me to purchase one (1) new Philip Glass album
Reposting for the real ones

It’s just a nice little short movie, not too scary or nothing. I’m chilling us down as we head back towards British TV Fun
15. “Box Fort”

After CYCLOPS, it’s prob. time to take it down a notch. So here’s a nice little short film about some girls who make a box fort. I’m sure it’s fine.

14. CYCLOPS (George Iida 1987)

Of all the messed up weird j-horror I’ve posted this month, CYCLOPS takes the cake: pure body horror in the vein of John Carpenter’s THE THING, with shades of TETSUO & AKIRA. Not for the squeamish, but pure absurd fun

Granted it’s been 20 yrs since I read it but the one thing I liked about the Johnny sections was the codes—I remember being actually alarmed/scared/unnerved by one of his mother’s coded letters, and that being the result of the deciding process slowly unveiling g the horror
Now I need to scroll down your feed to see what the takes were!!
Now to be clear, I watched this on a bootleg blu-ray—I haven’t watched this YouTube presentation yet, except to make sure it had subtitles (the other version on YT doesn’t), so it may be different from my experience. I was gonna watch it today but then I had to deal with life. Stupid life!

I think I miscounted & I have *one* more 80s Japanese video horror, actually, but it is the best & most WTF of the bunch
Hey you all getting sick of the weird Japanese and found footage stuff? Should I pause for some British 70s TV folk horror, or can I wrap up the 80s Japanese stuff first?

I’m thinking I have 2 more Japanese 80s video horror & then I’ll pivot to Britain for a while & then come back to Japan later on
Esp in horror fiction

There are so many brilliant horror writers who will never get the attention they deserve because they only or mostly work in short form
Short story collections should be way more popular and marketed better for the short-attention present.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat
2 more 1980s Japanese video horror, some 2010s/20s Japanese found footage, the weirdest Japanese mockumentary horror movie ever, possibly a couple shorts and even a reeeeaaaaalllly bad 2000s-era j-horror for laughs

But yrall probably getting ready for some more Brit horror first right?
