I don't know if it's really clear, outside of coverage of Mpls and pockets of organizing elsewhere, that hundreds of thousands of people are actively and at every level of society fighting our government as it abducts and imprisons and torments our neighbors.

I was treated like the “dumb one” in my friend group because they were all good at math & science, and I was good at reading—because anyone can read, I guess—and I’ve never quite gotten past that
But man, that lingering anger, pain, and spite in my heart about how the pervasive culture around me in the educational spaces of the 90s and 2000s told me that I was a useless eater just for sucking at my math SATs is always going to be with me.

Rereading @nadiabulkin.bsky.social ‘s SHE SAID DESTROY because I assigned it in my creative writing fiction class (which I don’t get to teach often), and my god it is a work of beauty. Each story is flawless, heartbreaking, unnerving, politically razor-sharp

The students are loving it, of course

This book, in fact, rips so hard. It feels exactly like if Shiraishi Koji wrote a book, minus the humor

which makes sense because I understand it is the basis of his next movie? or is it a novelization of his next movie? I rly don’t know causality on this one

Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

“The question isn’t *does* Frankenstein’s monster have a dong, the question is *why* does Frankenstein’s Monster have a dong?”
Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

"Sadly, not aliens."

I feel like Los Angeles is a place where people expect ICE to happen because the kidnappings have been happening to my home city for decades, so there’s less media attention to it now. and I want folks to see that in LA, Latine students are organizing major protests & the police are attacking them

LAPD arrested at least two teenagers protesting ICE raids in Los Angeles yesterday. They were also seen corresponding with ICE agents on Alameda Street during the demonstrations.

John Clare spent a full month’s pay from working in the fields just to buy a single notebook so he could write his poems down. He had a fieldworker’s education, so he could read & write but his grammar and spelling were atrocious.

But he did it anyway, and became (briefly) a bestselling poet.
Not going to repost that shill insisting that anti-AI artists are "gatekeeping" art and that it's unfair that some people are simply too poor or untalented to learn how to draw without AI.

But I do want to talk about my cousin. 🧵

horror is perhaps the only genre where an inactive protagonist is key & more useful than an active one. Where things happening to them increase the terror and the story, & if they start being active, it has to be in a way that fails in weird and scary ways

else the terror lessons, & it's not horror

Oh my god all of these are so good. THE HATCHING is seriously a no-miss, like you absolutely must watch this movie. GRETEL AND HANSEL may be my least favorite Perkins movie and it’s still better than every other American horror movie ever made—and visually sumptuous. SUMPTUOUSSSSSS.
It's Fairy Tale February on #FolkHorrorFriday. The lineup:

2/6 THE LURE

2/13 THE HATCHING

2/20 GRETEL AND HANSEL

2/27 THE HALLOW

All movies are free to stream on Tubi. We start at 9pm ET every Friday and post using the hashtag.

I’m of the belief that it is better to acknowledge what we’ve lost—to say, yes, Harry Potter meant a lot to me and Rowling has ruined it for me—in part to emphasize that this isn’t easy or performative, and in part to show that it’s a moral imperative, not just yelling at things you don’t like
one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

I deeply do not like this drawing (complimentary!)

It’s giving SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK but with a haunting restraint appropriate to THE WOMAN IN BLACK
I left my old job a couple of years ago. I’m getting by (just) but crikey, having done my tax return & seen how little I’m earning it was a shocker, it’s getting more & more difficult to earn money from illustration.

I have been out of action too so…I’ll get cracking!

Buy my art (FEBRUARY) 🙏🏻

Again it's good Bovino got pulled back. It's good there might be even a temporary drawdown in Minneapolis. But DHS is surging in Maine. It is grabbing people around Los Angeles. They aren't stopping. Maybe they're scared but they aren't stopping. The American Dirty War continues.
something i'm kind of stressed about is that every time someone at dhs was ousted during trump 1, no matter what odious shit they were connected with, they had been ousted for being insufficient hardline
